Greece Beaches - Guide To The Best Beaches In Greece
Shipwreck Beach (Zante)
Tucked away on Zante’s north-western coast, this stunning beach is one of the most iconic across Europe. The only way to reach this picture-perfect cove is via taxi-boats, which leave regularly throughout the day from the neighbouring beach of Porto Vromi. Once you’ve arrived here though, it won’t take long to forget the journey. The smooth white sand which fills the cove is met by beautiful clear blue seas, which entice you in as they shimmer underneath the afternoon sunshine. The beach has gained its name from a boat transporting illegal cigarettes here in 1983, but was swallowed up by the water and shipwrecked. In the years that have passed sands have covered the boat and left an image of the boat emerging from them for all to see, making this unique beach a must-visit if you’re on the island.
