Christmas holidays

Christmas holidays somewhere hot with On the Beach. Enjoy your Christmas break in the sun with deposits from £30pp and ATOL Protection.

It truly felt like this Summer would last forever, and now, it pretty much can, we're talking toasty temps, quiet beach days and plenty of sun to keep the tan well and truly topped up. It'll be like you're living your best Kate Winslet life in 'The Holiday' and then some. Whether you fancy kicking back in style on an all inclusive break to sunny Mexico, or you're keeping things closer to home with one of our holidays to Lanzarote, we've got you covered. And those of you browsing in November, don't even sweat it, our last minute breaks are all the rage, a perfect choice if you fancy swapping the rainy days for a Christmas in the sun.

Christmas holiday deals

We see you. Christmas is fab and all, but there’s only so much turkey, telly and tinsel a person can take. Why not swap the snow for sunshine and bag yourself a holibob that’s truly top-tier? Imagine kicking back poolside with a tipple in hand, while everyone back home argues over who cheated at charades. Bliss. And don’t worry - you won’t miss out on the festive feasting. Plenty of resorts go full-on Christmas mode, which means there’s every chance you’ll be piling your plate high with turkey, trimmings and maybe even a whopper of a pudding (minus the washing up). Then it’s straight into the pool instead of into an itchy Christmas jumper.

There are plenty of places serving up a healthy dash of winter sun, but if you really want to go all-out, it has to be Dubai. And if we're talking specifics, then Radisson Resort Ras Al Khaimah Marjan Island has loads to sing and dance about, with 6 restaurants and bars, and a private stretch of beach. Best Christmas prezzie ever, are we right or are we right?!

What kind of Christmas holiday do you fancy?

Whether you're looking to embrace the festivities or escape them completely, we've got a bunch of holidays at Christmas for whatever you're craving.

Short-haul Christmas breaks

Ready to bin the brollies and trade your big coat for sunnies? We’ve got you. You don’t need to sit on a plane for hours on end to score a scorchio Christmas. The Canaries are a classic for a reason, even in the Winter, think Tenerife or Lanzarote with guaranteed 18–20°C heat. Basically, warmer than a British “summer” (yep, we said it). Fancy pushing it further? Morocco hits the 20s in December, and Egypt loves showing off with sunshine well into the mid-20s. Forget frost on your car windscreen, it's all about the frost on your frozen daiquiri.

Long-haul Christmas holidays

Of course, sometimes you want to go all-out, and you're willing to do whatever it takes to get those tropical vibes. The good news is, we treat our long-haul holidays with the same amount of love as our short-haul ones, so you can enjoy the same low deposits and same FlexiPay scheme, no matter how far you're travelling. (Well, unless you plan on holidaying on Jupiter. That's slightly outside of our window.) If you're in the mood for the kind of Christmas where swimwear is the new sleepwear, BBQs are the new roast dinner, and rum punch is the new hot chocolate, then we've got a bunch of long-haul vacays to tickle your fancy. From sunning it up on Dubai's stunning palm to drinking from coconuts on the tropical sands of Mexico or St Lucia - nothing says Merry Christmas like a selfie with a palm tree. Facts.

Christmas market holidays

Oh, you thought we only did beaches? Think again. We've been bragging about our city breaks to anyone that'll listen and we've got plenty of bangers up our sleeve, which means if you're not quite ready to ditch the cold for sun, then you can at least ditch the naff local Christmas Market for one that's giving major North Pole vibes.  Somewhere prettier, with way more exotic food. Whether it's a festive shopping spree in New York, a romantic trip to Paris (the perfect gift if you ask us, hint hint), a mooch around Prague's Old Town at the twinkling market stalls, or somewhere else completely - we've got plenty of cheap Christmas holidays with all the festive feels included 🎄🎅🏻

Popular Christmas breaks

In case you missed the memo, Christmas holidays don't have to mean cold weather (not unless you want them to), which is why we're all in favour of a bit of beach time, the names a dead giveaway, right? The good news is, you can ditch the de-icer and snag the factor 50 because your next hit of sunshine is lit a few hours away. Cyprus has over 320(!!) days of sunshine each year (rub it in why don't you), which makes it a 10/10 pick for a warm winter break. Tenerife is up there too, with year-round sun and plenty of restaurants open on Christmas Day, while Malta has a more traditional vibe with temperatures at the perfect in-between.

We've got cheap Christmas holidays for...

The whole fam

Family time is at an all-time high over Christmas (whether we like it or not), so why not switch things up and head somewhere sunny with the whole crew? We've got action-packed holidays with theme parks, city breaks with all the iconic sights, and classic beach breaks where the kiddos can snorkel, swim and scuba-dive to their heart's content. Whether you're looking to round off the year with a big family celebration or you're just itching to get away from the weather back home, our family holidays are the perfect way to do it. And we're not biased... At all.

The cute couples

Nothing says romance like cuddling up by the fireplace, watching Love Actually for the 100th time (worth it every time), and slurping hot chocolate with all the trimmings. Right? Wrong. Picture it: cuddling up on the beach, watching the sunset for the first time in forever, and slurping fruit cocktails you can't pronounce the name of. Now that... that sounds like 'romance'. That's why a couples' holiday abroad at Christmas could be the perfect addition to your year. No stress of hosting parties (or attending them), no running around wondering what to buy each other and no cursing yourself stupid when you burn the turkey (again 🙃). Just a break in the sun for you and your fave person (escaping the in-laws is just a bonus).

The big groups

If your idea of a party guestlist is the more the merrier, then you're probably the same at Christmas time. Everyone and their nan's dog comes to your house for cheese and nibbles, a glass of vino and a friendly chat. Thankfully, you don't have to completely kiss goodbye to that, because we've got group holidays with enough fun for everyone. Think huge sunny resorts where you can flop on sun loungers and eat at a different restaurant every night, party hotspots where you can dance until Christmas morning, and beach breaks where you can sunbathe the days away. Whatever you're in the mood for, there's no better time than Christmas to get the whole crew together. No, that's not a quote from a movie. It's just us, being very demure, very cutesy.

Long haul Christmas holidays

If you're not one to shy away from a long flight (and honestly, when there's a hot meal, a snuggly blanket, a neck pillow and a bunch of films and TV shows at your fingertips, who's to complain?), then long-haul Christmas jollies are where it's at. Whether you're whisking the whole fam away for some Florida fun, diving into the glitz and glam of Dubai, or donning your skimpiest swimwear somewhere in the Caribbean, we've got the perfect picks to level-up your festive celebrations this year. We're talking more palm trees than fir trees, sandcastles over snow angels, and cocktails over mulled wine. Who said Christmas can't be exotic?

Is it cheaper to fly over Christmas?

Not necessarily, because Christmas can still be a busy time for people travelling abroad to visit friends and family. However, prices are still usually cheaper than peak summer time. If you want a guaranteed bargain on your flights, you're going to want to fly on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day. Don't worry, we hear they have Christmas movies on board.

Where's hot and cheap at Christmas?

We promise we're not sponsored by the Canaries Tourist Board (yet), but these islands really are your best bet for cheap sunshine in December. You'll find that prices are lower than peak months like July and August, and temperatures stay nice and toasty so you can still enjoy all those typical holiday things, like tanning on the beach, lazing by the pool and dining al fresco. Cyprus and Malta are also great picks for some more affordable sunshine in winter.

Where's the best place to go on holiday at Christmas?

Well, that all depends on what you're looking for! If you still want to keep some of those festive traditions alive, then a city break is the best way to go. That way, you can still enjoy the Christmassy vibes, cute little markets, culture-packed towns and don your winter wardrobe, but you can do it all somewhere different to home. If sun is what you're after though, then a beach holiday to somewhere like Tenerife or Cyprus is your best bet, or even the Maldives or the Caribbean if you want to go all out.

How cold or wet might it get in “sunny” destinations over Christmas?

Even in sun spots, evenings can cool off, and occasional showers happen (just enough to remind you you’re not fully in the desert). Generally though—for places like Canary Islands, Cyprus, Malta—you’ll get comfy daytime temps, lighter jackets in the evenings, and lots of sun. Basically, expect warm enough that you’ll be glad you packed the swimwear.
