The home of holiday perks

Not sure when to book your next holiday? We've got the lowdown on where's hot every month of the year, so you can match your dates to the sunshine. Whether you're chasing winter sun, a shoulder-season bargain, or peak summer heat, there's somewhere popping off whenever you're free to fly. We've mapped out the best spots month by month, from cheap holidays to last-minute escapes, so you can grab your suncream and take off your watch (avoid that tan line on your wrist) because with us you can time your trip just right.

When to go on holiday

For wall-to-wall sunshine and everything running at full throttle, June to August is peak season across the Med, with temperatures in the high twenties to low thirties in Turkey, Greece and Spain. If you'd rather dodge the crowds and save some cash, April to June and September to October are the shoulder months: still warm, quieter resorts, and some of the best deals of the year. Winter sun between November and February means the Canary Islands (still 20°C+), Egypt, Cape Verde or Dubai for guaranteed heat while everyone at home is defrosting their windscreens.

One thing worth checking beyond temperature: rainy seasons. Some long-haul destinations have monsoon periods that aren't obvious from a quick weather search, so always check the detail on the monthly pages below before you book.

Where's hot all year round?

The Canary Islands are the classic answer: they rarely dip below 19°C even in January, and they're only a four-hour flight from the UK & Ireland. Beyond that, Cape Verde, Egypt and Dubai all deliver reliable warmth twelve months a year. If you want guaranteed heat without the long-haul flight, the Canaries are hard to beat.

When should I book my holiday to get the best deal?

There's no single magic window, but two approaches tend to work well. Booking early (three to six months ahead) locks in the widest hotel choice and the lowest flight prices before availability tightens. Alternatively, last-minute deals can throw up bargains when hotels want to fill remaining rooms, but you'll have less choice on dates and destinations. Either way, On the Beach's flexible payments and low deposits mean you can secure your booking without paying the full amount upfront.
