Samos has an amazing Mediterranean climate with hot, dry summers and mild, wet winters.
During the summer months of July and August you are unlikely to find any rain and a huge amount of sunshine with up to fourteen hours per day in July. Temperatures range from 29°C in June up to 31°C in July and August however the nights do bring an escape from the heat dropping to approximately 17°C.
Autumn sees the temperature suddenly drop in Samos, with October still being bright and hot at 22°C however November dipping to just 18°C and the likelihood of rain increasing dramatically. This leads to winter, from December until February being cool and wet- definitely not suitable for a sunny beach holiday due to the weathers unpredictability.
The spring, starting in March until May sees the rainfall dropping and the sunshine rising to temperatures of 20-24°C so is a good time to visit Samos if you don't want a scalding holiday!

More so than most Greek islands, yes. Samos is fairly spread out and the best beaches, mountain villages, and attractions are scattered around the coast and up into the hills. Buses connect the main towns in summer but they're not frequent. A hire car opens up the whole island — the roads are decent, traffic is light, and the mountain driving has some properly spectacular scenery. If you're staying in Pythagoreio or Samos Town and don't mind sticking close to base, you can manage without one, but you'd be missing out.
Is Samos good for a quiet holiday?
Is Samos good for a quiet holiday?
Brilliant for it. Samos doesn't do mass tourism — there's no strip of bars, no water parks, and no nightlife scene beyond harbour tavernas and a few cocktail bars. What you get instead is genuine Greek island life: fishing boats in the harbour, home-cooked food, mountain villages with three tables outside a kafeneion, and beaches where you might be the only people there. It's the kind of place where doing nothing feels like doing everything.
