Mykonos is the Greek island that needs no introduction. Whitewashed streets, windmills on the clifftop, beaches that range from ultra-chic to properly wild, and a nightlife scene that gives Ibiza a run for its money.
✨ Highlights of your holidays to Mykonos 2026
Windmills, white streets and Little Venice - The Mykonos Town skyline is one of the most photographed in Greece. Little Venice's waterfront houses, the Kato Mili windmills at sunset, and the maze of whitewashed lanes with blue and red doors are the reason this island is on everyone's bucket list.
Beaches for every mood - From the party scene at Paradise and Super Paradise to the quiet cove at Agios Sostis (no sunbeds, no bars, just sand and sea), Mykonos has over 25 beaches and you could visit a different one every day of a week-long trip.
Nightlife that actually delivers - Mykonos does nightlife with style. Sunset cocktails at Little Venice, beach club DJs at Scorpios and Nammos, and bars in Mykonos Town that don't get going until midnight.
Film-location gorgeous - Mykonos has been used as a filming location for the Bourne Identity, Shirley Valentine, and dozens of fashion campaigns. The light here is genuinely different from anywhere else in the Med.
🎉 Good to Know
☀️ Weather - The season runs late May to mid-October. Peak summer (July and August) hits 28-33°C with almost no rain. Shoulder months (May, June, September, October) are 22-28°C and gorgeous.
💶 Money - A sit-down meal at a taverna runs €20-€40 per person, a beer at a beach club is €7-€10. The good news: the free unorganised beaches (Agios Sostis, Fokos) are just as beautiful as the famous ones.
🏛️ Fun Fact - Every building on Mykonos must follow a colour code: walls painted white, doors and windows painted blue, green, or red. It's actually enforced by local law, which is why the whole island looks like a perfectly curated Instagram feed.
🗣️ Local Lingo – Talk Like a Mykonos Local
In Mykonos, the vibes are effortless — and the language follows suit. Greek is the main language, but in a place this popular, locals are used to travellers. Still, dropping a few phrases will definitely earn you a smile (and maybe better service at the bar 😉).
Yassou, yah-SOO (Γεια σου), Hello / Goodbye (informal)
Efharisto, ef-hah-ree-STOH (Ευχαριστώ), Thank you
Parakalo, pah-rah-kah-LOH (Παρακαλώ), Please / You're welcome
Mia bira, parakalo, mee-ah BEE-rah pah-rah-kah-LOH, One beer, please
Opa!, OH-pah, The universal Greek expression of joy, excitement, and "let's go". You'll hear it constantly.
Where to stay on your Mykonos holidays
Agios Ioannis - a peaceful west-coast stunner with sweeping views and luxury hotels. Ideal for couples and honeymooners who want romantic sunset dinners, infinity pools, and calm waters without the chaos.
Agios Stefanos - close to the new port at Tourlos, this chilled spot is great for beach days without the crowds. Family-friendly, relaxed, and super handy if you’re hopping on or off a cruise ship.
Elia - one of the island’s longest beaches, with plenty of space to stretch out, plus a famously relaxed approach to beachwear (ahem). It’s got everything from sunbeds to watersports – and fewer crowds than the party beaches.
Kalafatis - love your holidays a little more active? Kalafatis is the go-to for windsurfing, kayaking and paddleboarding. With fewer beach clubs and more breathing room, it’s perfect for outdoorsy couples or families with teens.
Kalo Livadi - a long sandy bay with swanky beach clubs, chilled-out dining and a bit of a buzz. It’s got space to play but still delivers that luxury Mykonos look – ideal for groups or laid-back beach lovers.
Megali Ammos - just a short stroll from Mykonos Town, this breezy little beach spot is fab if you want town access without staying right in the party zone. A hit with couples and older travellers looking to keep things casual.
Ornos - sheltered bay? Check. Loads of tavernas? Check. Chill but not boring? Triple check. Ornos is great for families or couples who want an easy, beachy holiday with boat taxis and cocktail spots all close by.
Platis Gialos - a resort that knows how to multitask. You’ve got a gorgeous beach, watersports, great restaurants, and a water taxi that’ll zip you to nearby hotspots. Works a treat for all-inclusive fans and beach lovers alike.
Psarou - home to Nammos, one of the island’s most iconic beach clubs, Psarou is where the fashion crowd and yacht crew roll in. You’re paying for the name – but if you love a bit of posh people-watching, it’s worth it.
Tagoo - tucked just outside Mykonos Town, Tagoo is big on cliffside hotels, small on stress. You’ll get killer caldera views, sleek boutique stays, and easy walking access to the town without sleeping above a nightclub.
Tourlos - this is where the cruise ships dock, but it’s not just a stopover spot. Tourlos has a quiet little beach, a few tavernas, and great access to town. Ideal for a short stay or a chilled base near the port.

🏖️ What are the best beaches to visit on your holidays to Mykonos?
They might have the nightlife scene down, but Mykonos holidays know exactly how to deliver the chilled beach holiday vibes too. Dreamy beaches are like a love language here, whether you're looking for somewhere to dance and slurp cocktails, or somewhere to plonk down a towel and dive into your beach read. Whatever you fancy, give these spots a whirl on your Greece holidays:
Paradise Beach - just like the name suggests, this flat, sandy beach is a real hotspot, popping off with watersports, beach bars for your midday spritz, and even handy facilities like changing rooms and Wi-Fi
Psarou Beach - celeb-spotters, this is your spot. This luxey beach has gorgeous waters for dipping into, a whole menu of watersports to try your hand at, a bunch of seaside restaurants and sun lounger rental that's a bit on the spenny side, but totally worth it
Elia Beach - this one's a biggie (the biggest on the island), and it doesn't scrimp on the goods, with soft sands, clear waters and plenty of space to flop down a towel
Super Paradise Beach - here just to one-up the OG Paradise Beach, this place brings the inclusive vibes (it's a firm fave among the LGBTQ+ crew), gorg views and epic parties once the DJs hit the decks
Ornos Beach - snug, scenic and stacked with all the essentials - this family-friendly cove is sheltered enough for a quiet swim, but still within easy reach of nearby seafood tavernas
Paraga Beach - a 2-in-1 kinda beach, with two sandy stretches divided by a rocky headland. Its curved shape shelters it from the blustery winds, making it a top pick for quiet swims, and less so for wind sports

🧳 Mykonos Holidays 2026 / 2027 Travel Guide
💑 Things to do in Mykonos for couples
Little Venice sunset cocktails - Grab a table at Galleraki, Caprice, or Scarpa about an hour before sunset and watch the sky turn orange behind the Kato Mili windmills. Free apart from the drinks.
Candlelit dinner at a waterfront taverna - Ornos and Agios Ioannis have the most romantic restaurant settings on the island, with tables practically in the sand and fresh seafood straight from the boat.
Private boat trip to Delos - The uninhabited ancient island is a 30-minute ride from Mykonos. A whole ruined city with temples, mosaics, and the Terrace of the Lions. Pair it with swimming stops on the way back.
Spa day at a boutique hotel in Psarou - Several of the Psarou hotels open their spas to non-guests. Treatments with sea views and a swim afterwards.
Mykonos Town after dark - The lanes come alive after 10pm. Cocktails at 180° Sunset Bar, the maze of wine bars and jewellery shops, and Astra or Babylon for dancing until sunrise. The whole town is walkable.
👨👩👧👦 Things to do in Mykonos for families
Ornos Beach and Platis Gialos - The two most family-friendly beaches on the island, both sheltered with shallow water, sunbeds, and tavernas for lunch. Boat taxis connect them to other beaches without needing a car.
Mykonos Vioma Organic Farm - Meet animals, taste local honey and cheese, and learn about traditional Mykonian agriculture. A good half-day for younger kids, especially in the morning before the heat builds.
Family boat cruise with swimming stops - Half-day and full-day trips run from Ornos and Platis Gialos with snorkelling gear, lunch, and stops at quieter beaches. Kids love the boat ride itself as much as the swimming.
Mykonos Town harbour and ice cream - Walk along the harbour wall, watch the pelicans (Petros the pelican is a local celebrity), and pick up ice cream from one of the gelaterias in the lanes. Easy and free.
Agios Stefanos for a quiet family beach day - Calm water, no party scene, a few tavernas for lunch, and close to the port if you're arriving or departing by ferry.
🎉 Things to do in Mykonos for groups
Paradise Beach Club after dark - The original Mykonos party beach, still the biggest. DJs from midday, foam parties, open-air dancing. The bus from town runs until late.
Villa rental with private pool - Tourlos, Kalo Livadi, and Ano Mera all have villa options for groups who want a private base for pool days, BBQ nights, and pre-drinks before heading out.
Catamaran day charter - Open bar, swimming stops, speaker-blasting singalongs, and a sunset finish. Most depart from Mykonos marina and include Delos as a stop.
Mykonos Town bar crawl - Skandinavian Bar (going since 1978), Mex Cocktail Bar (cheapest drinks in town), then VOID or Bonbonniere for the late shift. The strip is compact and walkable.
Super Paradise Beach - LGBTQ+ friendly, inclusive vibes, and DJs hitting the decks from mid-afternoon. More relaxed than Paradise but the parties still go late.
🍽️ Things to do in Mykonos for foodies
Kopanisti and louza tasting - Mykonos's two signature local products: a spicy, tangy cheese and paper-thin cured pork. Try them at any traditional taverna or pick them up at a deli in Mykonos Town.
Seafood at a beach taverna - Nikolas Taverna at Agia Anna Beach is the classic: family-run, catch of the day, feet in the sand. Avli Tou Thodori at Platis Gialos is equally good with bigger portions.
Vineyard tour and tasting - Mykonian Land offers tours of the winery and olive groves, a walkthrough of the whole process, and tasting with salty appetisers and traditional Greek music.
Street food in Mykonos Town - Sakis Grill House and Jimmy's Gyros in Chora do souvlaki wraps and kebabs for €4-€7. The best budget eating on the island.
Fine dining with a view - M-eating in Mykonos Town for upscale Greek classics, Kastro's for waterfront seafood, and To Maereio for home-style dishes in a tiny space with queues out the door (worth it).

Summer in Mykonos (June to September) is hot and dry, with temperatures of 28-33°C and barely a cloud. The Meltemi wind blows from the north in July and August, sometimes strongly. When it's up, the north-coast beaches (Panormos, Ftelia, Agios Sostis) get choppy waves and the ferry services can be disrupted. Head to the south-coast beaches (Ornos, Platis Gialos, Psarou, Paradise) on Meltemi days, they're sheltered and calm. The wind keeps the heat bearable and the air clear, so it's not a bad thing, just something to plan around.
May and October bookend the season at 22-26°C. Still warm enough for swimming, noticeably quieter, and cheaper. September is arguably the best month: warm seas, thinner crowds, and lower hotel prices. Winter (November to April) is mild but most of the island shuts down.

Is Mykonos expensive?
Not gonna sugarcoat it – Mykonos is one of the pricier Greek islands. A pint will set you back around €6, beach club sunbeds can be steep, and restaurants in prime spots charge accordingly. That said, you can absolutely do Mykonos on a budget if you stay in less touristy areas, eat at local tavernas away from the waterfront, and pick your beach clubs wisely.

How do I get from Mykonos Airport to my hotel?
Mykonos Airport (JMK) is tiny but well-connected, sitting just outside Mykonos Town. Here's roughly how long it takes to reach the main resorts by taxi:
Mykonos Town and Megali Ammos – about 10 minutes
Tourlos and Agios Stefanos – around 10-15 minutes
Ornos and Agios Ioannis – roughly 10 minutes
Platis Gialos and Psarou – about 15 minutes
Paraga and Paradise Beach – around 15-20 minutes
Elia and Kalafatis – approximately 20-25 minutes
Buses run from the airport to Mykonos Town (Fabrika Square) for around €2, but there's no direct service to the beaches – you'd need to change in town. For the smoothest start to your jolly, book your transfers through us as part of your package and you can kick back from the moment you land.

Mykonos or Santorini – which should I pick?
Mykonos or Santorini – which should I pick?
Two very different vibes! Mykonos is your go-to for beaches, nightlife and a buzzy cosmopolitan atmosphere – think beach clubs, late nights and golden sands. Santorini is more about dramatic caldera views, romantic sunsets and volcanic scenery – stunning but less beachy. If you want to party and lounge on the sand, pick Mykonos. If you want postcard views and candlelit dinners overlooking the caldera, go Santorini. Or do both – there are daily ferries between the two!
Can you do Mykonos on a budget?
Can you do Mykonos on a budget?
It takes a bit of planning, but absolutely. Stay in areas like Tourlos or Ano Mera instead of the glitzier spots, eat at local tavernas away from the waterfront (gyros wraps for under €5 are your best mate), and stick to the free public beaches rather than splashing out on beach club sunbeds. The bus network is cheap and reliable too, so you can skip the taxis. You won't be doing bottle service at Scorpios, but you'll still have a proper brilliant time.
Do you need a car in Mykonos?
Do you need a car in Mykonos?
Not really – the island's compact and the bus network covers most of the popular beaches and Mykonos Town. Water taxis from Platis Gialos connect the southern beaches, which is dead handy. That said, if you want to explore the quieter coves like Agios Sostis or Fokos, renting an ATV or scooter gives you more freedom. Just watch out for those winding roads and the Meltemi winds – they're no joke on two wheels!
