Valentine’s Day is widely celebrated by couples around the globe, with loved ones often splashing out on extravagant gifts for each other. As price tags on popular Valentine’s presents’ rocket, we thought we’d carry out a little research to find out how much holiday, ripped off romantics could have for the same price as a bunch of roses.
We should probably mention, we looked at the price of 100 hand tied red roses, not those picked up from the petrol station on the way home from work…
An overwhelming 97% of those surveyed, said they would have preferred a week away in the sun to the more traditional gift of 100 red roses, with the latter surprisingly, costing around £30 more.
Our research also found, this year a luxurious spa day for two in London actually costs more than a 3* seven night holiday in the Spanish Costas’.
Couples could swap one romantic night away for seven, with a one week holiday at a 4* hotel in the sunny Algarve, costing less than one night at a 5* hotel in London.
Many retailers and florists massively hike up prices on Valentine’s Day and in many cases gifts such as roses double in price. Instead of paying over the odds for loved ones, couples could treat themselves to more than just a few hours together and take some quality time out to relax in the sun.
