Love is in the air: Our top romantic destinations

It’s coming to that time of year where we’re surrounded by teddy bears, love hearts and chocolates wherever we turn. But what’s more romantic than jetting off with your other half for a week of relaxing beach days, dinner under the stars and roaming beautiful village streets under the sun? Valentine’s Day at home may be cute and all, but if you want to be somewhere where love really is in the air, here are our dreamy top romantic destinations.

Turkey

Where could be better for lovebirds than Turkey? Whether you want to whisk your partner away over Valentine’s Day or gift them a getaway for later in the year, Turkey offers warm weather, golden beaches and amazing food all year round. Speaking of food, they say the way to the heart is through the stomach, and Turkish menus are full of mouthwatering dishes to share over a candlelit dinner. Not sure where to pick? If your couples holiday wouldn’t be complete without a romantic walk on the beach, then Antalya is a great choice. Love a lively location? The nightlife in Marmaris is perfect for getting up to mischief with your partner in crime. Olu Deniz and Fethiye offer a great mix of relaxed resorts and beautiful bays, and Bodrum features stunning ancient attractions alongside crystal clear waters. Basically, you can’t go wrong with a dreamy Turkey trip for two.

Montenegro

Lush green treetops meet the clay rooftops all the way down to the golden sandy shore and beautiful deep-blue sea. Montenegro may not be a destination on your radar, but it’s certainly one that’s on ours. With a jaw-dropping mountainous landscape, the scenery in this small south-eastern European country sets it apart from the rest. Spend your days unwinding together by the beautiful Adriatic Sea, exploring the charming historical sites and cities, or making the most of the stunning countryside with refreshing nature walks hand in hand. Think cute little coastal villages, beautiful hotels perfect for a couple’s stay and romantic restaurants with unique cuisine that’s perfect for sharing. Although a dreamy destination all year-round, if you’re looking for a sun-soaked break to get the sparks flying, visit Montenegro between June and September for the warmest weather and the longest bright, sunny days.

Make the most of Montenegro in the magnificent Melia Budva Petrovac.

Santorini

Perfectly picturesque. Santorini is a truly special place, where dramatic coastal cliffs with winding whitewashed cobbled streets overlook wondrous, emerald waters below. This Greek island is the epitome of beauty and tranquillity, meaning it regularly tops the tables when it comes to romantic getaways. After all, nothing screams romance quite like the world-famous Santorini sunset. Book a cosy table at an authentic local eatery by the sea, head to a sunset bar and enjoy a delicious cocktail or simply find a secluded spot at the island’s edge where you’ll get a front-row seat together to admire this immense spectacle. Watch as illuminating pinks, heart-warming oranges and splashes of vibrant purples paint the skies – it’s a sight you’ll both treasure forever. From wine tasting tours to open-air cinemas and elegant seafront restaurants, Santorini is a playground for couples seeking an unforgettable Valentine’s adventure.

From secluded little coves to rolling dunes, Crete is a beach lover’s dream. Can it get any more romantic than a carefree day at the beach or a moonlit stroll across the sands with your favourite human? It can if the sands are a gorgeous glistening pink colour and the azure-blue waters are crystal clear. Make sure to try plenty of the world-famous Greek cuisine before you head off too. From the meaty moussaka to veggie-packed meze platters, you’ll soon find out why holidaymakers flock back to Crete year after year. Spend your days discovering the unique sands of Elafonisi, wander around the Venetian castle of Rethymno or head to Agios Nikolaos for dinner and dancing, the choice is yours.
