Tenerife Holidays

Read more about Tenerife

Taking pride of place at the heart of the Canaries, Tenerife has long been one of Britain’s favourite holiday destinations. Offering year-round sunshine, it’s the perfect place to top up your tan during the drizzly months back home - and with a huge range of attractions for all ages, both couples and families are sure to have a whale of a time.

Beaches
The island has a diverse mix of beaches, from family-friendly soft sands to rugged volcanic coastlines. Mainly dotted across the south and east, there are over 40 to choose from - and with plenty offering watersports and scuba diving, thrill-seekers and undersea adventurers will be right at home.

Top tip
For the ultimate beach escape, head north to majestic Mesa del Mar. Home to some of the island’s most dramatic sands, this unspoilt slice of paradise is a real hidden gem. There’s even a natural ocean pool right around the corner - surrounded by cliffs and crashing waves, it’s a superb spot for photos.

Food & Drink
Tenerife’s cuisine is Spanish at its heart, with a fabulous Canarian flair. Grilled fresh fish - known as ‘a la plancha’ - is a firm local favourite, and a jar of moreish ‘mojo’ sauce, which is typically smothered on potatoes, is sure to head home with you. For an indulgent after-dinner treat, caffeine queens will also adore the traditional ‘barraquito’, a steaming hot drink made from layers of vanilla liqueur and coffee.

Culture
With the island inhabited for over 2,000 years, it’s no wonder that Tenerife has such a rich culture. Catholic traditions take centre-stage for much of the calendar, such as the Semana Santa events over Easter, and the flower-filled Corpus Christi festival in the summer. Plus, in February, the island bursts with colour thanks to the world-famous carnival, with samba parades sure to get your toes tapping.

Nightlife
For a night on the tiles, it has to be the world-famous Veronicas Strip - right in the centre of Playa de las Americas, there are over 50 buzzing bars and clubs to discover. Plus, nearby Costa Adeje is famed for its live music - and in the north, Puerto de la Cruz’s vibrant pavement cafes are great spots to watch the world go by.

Tenerife Weather

Like its sister Canary Islands, Tenerife is blessed with a gorgeous year-round climate, from sizzling summers to balmy winters. From July to September, expect highs of up to 28°C - and the mercury doesn’t drop a million miles during the cooler months, with a respectable 20°C on offer in January. Due to the Atlantic trade winds, a bit of a breeze is pretty common throughout the year - and you’ll definitely want to pack a jacket for a trip to Mount Teide, which can get super-chilly at night time.

Things To Do on Tenerife Holidays

Mount Teide
Soaring over 12,000ft into the skies, this spectacular peak earns a double place in the record books, as Spain’s tallest mountain and the world’s third-tallest volcano. Those in the mood for a workout can follow one of the 37 walking routes - or for a more chilled-out way to explore, the magnificent cable car will sweep you right up into the clouds. Plus, by night, it’s the setting for the ultimate romantic escape, with the chance to stargaze right from the centre of the crater.

Loro Parque
Family fun is at the heart of this hugely popular attraction, which is home to over 4,000 animals from around the world. Make a splash at the dolphin and sea lion experiences, or take a walk on the wild side in the vivid jungle walk-throughs - the choice is yours. Tiny explorers will also love the amazing adventure playground, complete with treehouses, slides and a magical mini-rollercoaster.

Siam Parque
Rated the number-one waterpark in the world by TripAdvisor, Siam Parque boasts over 30 rides and attractions, from pulse-pounding kamikaze slides to a languid lazy river. The gigantic Palace of Waves pool even has its own real-sand beach, and the Lost City splash park is perfect for little swimmers. On dry land, there’s even a luxury champagne club with Balinese beds - be sure to save us a glass!

La Gomera
Heading off the beaten track and into the waves, Los Cristianos is the place to start a day trip with a difference. The ferry will whisk you to neighbouring La Gomera in less than an hour, where a world of discovery awaits - from jaw-dropping mountain ranges to some of the Canaries’ finest cuisine. Plus, the glass-fronted Abrante viewpoint shows off some seriously impressive views - just don’t look down…
