Long Haul Holidays FAQs

Long Haul FAQs

Long-haul flights aren't *actually* that bad - pass it on. We've heard the horror stories of cramped legroom, greige food and uncomfy seats, but we can also confirm... it's all BS (beyond silly). Long-haul flights are actually even comfier than short-haul ones, with food, films and bags of room. But, if you're still not sure, we've answered all your burning long-haul questions below, so you can get alllll the goss before you book your big trip.

Our most popular FAQs for long-haul holidays

What are the cabin class options for my long-haul flight?

We like to keep things simple around here, so to take the faff out of booking your flights, all of our seats are Economy Class. Most long-haul flights will provide blankets, pillows and in-flight entertainment anyway, and let's be honest - what more could you want? Even in First Class they don't feed you grapes and fan you with palm leaves, and trust us - we've asked. That's why we thought we'd save you the trouble (and some dosh), by already selecting the best flight option for your travels. No need to thank us. Really.

Does my long haul-holiday come with extras?

We're the Home of Holiday Perks, so of course it comes with extras, you silly sandcastle! When you book a long-haul holiday with us, you can expect...

*Sadly no fizzy cola bottle sweets are included in these packages. We've raised this with our Marketing manager.

Do you get food on a long-haul flight?

Yes! Which is good news for us, because 10 hours on a flight with no food? The hanger would be real. So yes, you will get food - and chances are it'll be loads better than that ham sandwich you normally pick up from WHSmith's. Instead, the lovely flight attendants will come round with a hot meal, drinks (everything from water to wine), and even snacks if you're really lucky. Oh, and we've got news for you. Plane food has come a long way, so these days you're more likely to get rich tomatoey gnocchi than spongey chicken and potatoes. We even got a mini tub of ice cream once. We still think about it sometimes. We loved that ice cream.

Check below to see what's included on your flight (fingers crossed for that ice cream).

What entertainment is there on long-haul flights?

Long-haul flights have all the bells and whistles. Well, all the screens and headphones at least - or IFE (In Flight Entertainment) systems, if you want to be techy about it. That's smart talk for you'll have your very own personal screen on the back of the seat in front of you, so you can get comfy and stick a film (or three) on. Unless you choose Avatar, in which case you might just about make it halfway through. Some flights even include stuff especially for the kids - like activity packs and kids' films, so they can watch Frozen for the 50th time without forcing you to join them. Unless you're Charlotte from our Content team, in which case absolutely no forcing would be required.

Are long-haul flights comfortable?

We're gonna tell you something more shocking than when Ross told Rachel they were on a break. Ready?

Long-haul flights are actually even comfier than short-haul ones.

There. Now you know. You'll have plenty legroom, a hot meal to break up the journey, and your own personal screen so you can stick a film on. Or track your flight path to see where abouts in the world you are. No judging here. If you'd rather watch a tiny cartoon plane moving on a screen than the new Marvel movie, then who are we to judge? Oh - and most flights will provide blankets, neck pillows and headphones too. Show-offs.

How to stay comfortable on a long-haul flight

Your airline will take care of all the basics - comfy seat, tasty food, cheesy films - but that doesn't mean you can't still do a few things yourself to make sure your journey's as comfortable as possible. Our tips? Stick a comfy outfit on. Elasticated waistbands all the way, that's what we say. And don't forget to layer up. A jumper or cosy hoodie is an absolute must, no matter how excited you are for the tropical climate that's gonna greet you on the other side. The plane's usually on the chillier side, so come prepared. And make sure to bring any essentials you know you can't relax without. Eye mask. Slippers. Cuddly toy. Hey, we don't judge!

What is a long-haul holiday?

Simply speaking, a long-haul holiday is just like a short-haul holiday, but it takes a bit longer to get there. Holidays with flight times of 6 hours or more are generally considered long-haul.

What's it like to fly long-haul in Economy?

Everyone's in the same boat (well, plane - but you get the idea), on a long-haul flight, so the airline staff will do everything they can to make sure your journey is as comfortable as possible. Drinks, meals and in-flight entertainment are all pretty standard, no matter where you sit, and you'll often get comforts like blankets and pillows so you can get really cosy.

Long-haul baggage allowance
