Baggage Allowance

Holidays? We love 'em. Every last drop. Yep, even sorting the baggage out. Why? Because we take the stress out of all those niggly bits! We've put together a handy guide to help answer all of your luggage-related questions, from weight limits to in-flight extras, no matter who you're flying with. You do the packing, we'll sort the rest.

What's the difference between hand luggage and hold luggage?

Hand luggage:

Otherwise known as the trusty 'cabin bag', hand luggage is kept with you at all times and taken on board the plane. This is the bag you take through security with you, so you'll need to make sure there are no restricted items inside - including any liquids over 100ml. For more information on restricted items, see: https://www.gov.uk/hand-luggage-restrictions

Every airline has a different hand luggage allowance, which can range from a small rucksack to a 10kg wheelie case. In most cases, each passenger is entitled to at least one item of hand luggage. You can check the specific luggage guidelines for your airline below.

Hold Luggage:

This is the luggage you 'check in' on arrival at the airport, before you go through security. It’s sent off down the conveyor belt and loaded underneath the plane. You'll then collect it again at your destination airport when you arrive.

Ryanair

Hand luggage allowance:

All Ryanair flight bookings include a small personal bag (per person) which must fit under the seat in front of you.

Max weight

Max size

n/a

40cm x 30cm x 20cm

If your hand luggage exceeds these dimensions, you’ll be charged an 'oversized cabin bag' fee at the boarding gate.

Hold luggage allowance:

If you selected to add a 'hold bag' when placing your booking, then the allowance is:

Max weight

Max size

20kg

80cm x 120cm x 120cm

The baggage allowance can be shared with other passengers on your flight reservation. This means that if you have two hold luggage bags of 20kg on your booking, one bag could weigh 15kg and the other 25kg (totalling 40kg).

For health and safety reasons, an individual item should not weigh more than 32kg. This doesn't apply to mobility equipment.

Additional hand/hold luggage options:

You can purchase additional luggage directly via the airlines website. For full details on how to do this, log into 'My Bookings' and select ‘Flight Extras’ from the menu options.

'Priority  2 Cabin Bags' is a great option for shorter stays, or if you're just a pro at packing light! It's a handy way to save yourself some pennies.

You can find out more information by seeing Ryanair's Bag Policy.

easyJet
