Read more about Costa Brava

The Costa Brava is situated just south of the Pyrenees in the Catalonia region of Spain. Translated as the Wild Coast, this destination comprises of dramatically beautiful coastlines, a high chance of sunshine and hotels to suit families, couples and groups of friends alike.

Beaches
Costa Brava spans Spain’s northern shores, and offers every kind of beach you could imagine – from heavenly golden sands to secluded coves. Families can do no better than Sant Pol de Mar, a long stretch of sand with shallow waters, watersports and a fantastic play area for children. If you’re staying in Lloret de Mar and want to avoid the crowds, consider heading to Sa Caleta, a small bay to the east of the resort’s main beach. This cove is reached by a seafront promenade and is overlooked by a historic fort.

Food & Drink
The cuisine of the Costa Brava incorporates traditional Spanish food with a bit of local flair. Look out for ‘mar i munyanya’, or ‘sea and mountain’, a dish that combines seafood with land produce – think surf ‘n’ turf with a Mediterranean twist. If you have a sweet tooth, don’t miss out on ‘crema catalana’ either; it’s this region’s version of crème brûlée pudding. Finally, if you fancy a traditional tipple, look out for sangria or locally-made wine on the drinks menus.

Culture
Costa Brava stages a variety of annual carnivals and festivals – with each town's Festa Major involving merrymaking and dancing. Colourful processions are the order of the day at Easter, and many places hold summer music festivals. Carnival in February offers another excuse for vibrant partying. All year round, it is possible to see the sardana – traditional Catalan dance – being performed.

Nightlife
Nightlife is an essential part of most holidays in Spain, and the Costa Brava is no exception. This diverse region offers rich, varied evening entertainment, from leisurely, relatively low-key resorts such as Blanes and Calella, to the much livelier clubbing scene in Lloret de Mar. Wherever you are along this part of the Spanish coast, there are sure to be bars, discos and clubs aplenty to keep even the most enthusiastic reveller happy.

Things To Do on Costa Brava Holidays

Water World Lloret
Water World Lloret is an exciting waterpark that offers thrilling slides, river rapids, children’s island, a wave pool, kids’ pools, a relax lagoon and much, much more. Whether you have little ones or you’re a big kid yourself, no Costa Brava holiday is complete without a trip here. With an on-site restaurant serving burgers and snacks, you can even make a day of it – there are also plenty of sun loungers for those who prefer to stay dry.

Castillo de Tossa de Mar
Visible throughout Tossa de Mar, this historic castle is set on the clifftop near the resort’s sandy beach. Whether you take the hiking trail or ride the train to the top, you’ll be rewarded with panoramic views of the Mediterranean Sea and the pretty town. It’s free to look around these stunning ruins – definitely worth a post-swim wander!

House Salvador Dali
Reached by bus or taxi, the seaside house of Salvador Dali has been transformed into a museum. Get an insight into the life of the famous surrealist painter – book a tour and be amazed at the quirky interior of his passion-project villa. This attraction is not just for art lovers however, as the views over the sea and pretty setting of his home are definitely worth seeing.

Balloon Ride
What better way to take in the sights of the Costa Brava than from above? Get a bird’s eye view as you drift across the Spanish skies in a brightly-coloured hot air balloon from Globus Emporda. At an altitude of up to 1300m, you’ll be able to spot beaches, mountains and islands galore. Although prices start at €160, this aerial adventure would make a memorable one-off holiday treat.
