For families 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦

• 🏖️ Beach day at Praia da Rocha - one of the Algarve's most famous beaches is right on Portimao's doorstep. A huge stretch of golden sand backed by dramatic red cliffs, with lifeguards, sunbeds, beach bars and watersports in summer. About 3km south of the city centre.

• ⛰️ Day trip to Monchique - the mountain town of Monchique sits in the hills behind Portimao and makes for a brilliant day out. Cooler temperatures, eucalyptus forests, panoramic views from the Foia summit (the Algarve's highest point), and rustic restaurants serving piri-piri chicken cooked over charcoal. About 30 minutes' drive.

• 🚤 Boat trip along the coast - boat tours run from Portimao's marina along the coastline past sea caves, grottoes, and dramatic rock formations. Some include dolphin watching. Most trips last 1-2 hours and are brilliant for all ages.
