Things to do in Almancil

  • Hit the beach - Almancil's nearest beaches are some of the best in the Algarve. Praia do Ancao and Praia do Garrao are long, golden stretches backed by low dunes and pine forest, with Blue Flag water quality and far less crowding than the resorts further west. The Vale do Lobo beach is famous for its striking terracotta cliffs.

  • Play world-class golf - this is what puts Almancil on the map for many visitors. Quinta do Lago's South Course overlooks the Ria Formosa and has hosted the Portuguese Open multiple times. Vale do Lobo's Royal Course is built along the clifftops with views straight out to the Atlantic. There are half a dozen courses within a 15-minute drive.

  • Explore the Ria Formosa - this 60km coastal lagoon stretches along the eastern Algarve and is home to flamingos, chameleons and one of the world's largest seahorse populations. How far is Almancil from Faro Airport?

Do I need to pay tourist tax in Almancil?

Yes. Almancil is in the Loule municipality, which charges a tourist tax of €2 per person per night in high season (April to October) and €1 in low season (November to March). It's capped at seven consecutive nights and children under 13 are usually exempt. The tax is collected by your hotel.

Do I need a car in Almancil?

It's recommended. Almancil is a small town and the beaches, golf courses, and restaurants in the Golden Triangle are spread out.
