Read more about Faro

Faro is the main hub of the Algarve and is the perfect destination for combining culture with beautiful beaches such as Praia de Faro. Packed with Roman ruins, historical sites and the Museum of Faro, this city makes a great destination for those that want to explore, whilst soaking up the sun.

It doesn't stop with the history though; Faro has some of the best shopping, restaurants and golf on the Algarve, not to mention great beaches and typically excellent weather. There's something for everyone on holidays to Faro!

Holidays in Faro are great for those looking for a lively time as the region boasts vibrant nightlife and has plenty of places to enjoy no matter what kind of nightlife you’re looking for. Rua do Prior is the main street for clubs and bars including the town’s biggest nightclub Dux, while the Upa Upa Café and Bar at Bivar are hugely popular with tourists and locals alike.

For a change of scenery why not head out for a night in nearby Vale do Lobo or go further afield for a night admiring the extravagant yachts moored at the famed Vilamoura marina.

Much of the city of Faro is surrounded by the Roman walls and in the older part of the city especially there are many charming winding streets and old-fashioned cobbled pathways in Cidade Velha. To further explore your new surroundings, head to Faro Cathedral which is located in the city’s Old Town. The cathedral boasts an amazing interior and visitors can climb to the top of the building to take in the great views of Faro.

In the newer areas there are plenty of attractive hotels and shops whose bright colours give the area a particularly pretty appeal. Take some time away from the busy streets and enjoy a trip to Ria Formosa Natural Park. Offering a mix of canals, islands and sandy beaches, you’ll have plenty of fun exploring the area and the wildlife it attracts.
