• 💶 This is premium Algarve — expect resort-level pricing for dining and green fees. Meals at The Praca run €30-60+ for two, and green fees are at the upper end. But the quality matches the price. Loule municipality charges a tourist tax — check with your hotel for current rates.

• ⛳ The 16th hole on the Royal Course is one of the most famous par 3s in Europe — a 200-metre carry over a gaping ravine in the red sandstone cliffs, with the Atlantic crashing below. Even if you don't play golf, it's worth walking out to see it.

Golf at Vale do Lobo 2026/2027

Vale do Lobo has been a serious golf destination since 1968, when the legendary Sir Henry Cotton designed the original courses. Today the resort is home to two championship 18-hole courses that regularly feature in Europe's top rankings, with fairways running through umbrella pines down to the cliff edge and along the beach.

⛳ Royal Course — The headline act. Designed by Rocky Roquemore based on Sir Henry Cotton's original drawings, with rolling fairways, pine trees, lakes and wild flowers. The 16th hole is the star — a par 3 requiring a 200-metre carry over the red sandstone cliffs, with the Atlantic below. It's one of the most photographed golf holes in Europe and the defining image of Algarve golf. Regularly ranked among Portugal's best courses.

⛳ Ocean Course — Based on Cotton's original 1968 design, redeveloped by Roquemore in 2003. The front nine wind through hilly, pine-covered terrain with sea views from several holes. The back nine run down towards the Atlantic, with holes 11, 14 and 15 playing spectacularly alongside the beach and ocean. A different character to the Royal — more links-style on the coastal holes.

Vale do Lobo Beaches 2026/2027

🏖️ Praia de Vale do Lobo — The resort's main beach, stretching for about 2km. Golden sand backed by dramatic red and orange sandstone cliffs that are genuinely spectacular — some of the most photogenic in the Algarve. Lifeguards in summer, sunbed and parasol hire, and beach bars. The cliffs are the same formations that the Royal Course's 16th hole plays over. Warm, calm water.

🌅 Praia do Garrao — At the western end of the Vale do Lobo stretch, near the Dona Filipa Hotel. A quieter section of the same long beach with a slightly more secluded feel. Some sections are backed by the Ria Formosa nature reserve rather than cliffs.

🌊 Praia de Quarteira — About 15 minutes' drive west. Quarteira's 2km town beach with a palm-lined promenade, restaurants and a more local, Portuguese atmosphere. Good for a change of scene.

☀️ Praia da Quinta do Lago — About 10 minutes east. Quinta do Lago's beach, reached via the iconic wooden bridge over the Ria Formosa. Pristine and uncrowded.
