Mellieha Weather
If you're a sun worshipper or watersports lover, holidays in Mellieha Bay are wonderful the whole year round. Summers are hot and sunny with temperatures often well above 30° Celsius and, even in winter, it's still pleasant enough to take a stroll along the sands. The great thing about Mellieha is that you can take your holidays when it suits you!
Landscape
It's the vast sandy beach that draws most people on holidays to Mellieha and this is set amidst beautiful rolling countryside nearby. With its shallow waters and a constant lifeguard presence, parents of young children in particular can be guaranteed that it's one of the safest beaches on the island.
Things To Do on Mellieha Holidays
Watersports are the main focal point of activity at Mellieha Bay with water skiing and parasailing well featured. There are also pedalos and banana boats on offer for those who like those kinds of water frolics. You can also catch the ferry over to the neighbouring island of Gozo from Mellieha which is well worth a day trip.
Families are well catered for in the nearby resort of Bugibba and younger children will particularly enjoy Popeye Village. If you're thinking about a holiday to Mellieha in September, a two week annual festival takes place there from the 8th where the celebrations include numerous concerts and traditional folk singing, a religious parade and a spectacular fireworks display.
Culture
Mellieha is not just about the beach. It has several buildings of historical interest and there is an enchanting Baroque church in the village centre which dates back to the 16th Century. There's also a regular bus service travelling to and from Valletta if you want to experience even more of Malta's cultural heritage.
Nightlife
The village of Mellieha itself is situated only 1km from the beach. With its own hotels, some friendly restaurants and attractive shops, it's a relaxing way to spend an evening but if you're looking for a livelier time, it's only a short trip to Bugibba and Qawra both of which cater for most kinds of entertainment.
