Getting there and getting around

Getting to Gozo means flying to Malta International Airport first - around 3.5 hours from most UK airports. From there, a taxi to the Ċirkewwa ferry terminal in Malta's north takes about 40–45 minutes and costs approximately €30–35. The Gozo Channel ferry from Ċirkewwa to Mġarr runs day and night, takes 25 minutes, and costs €4.65 return for foot passengers. A fast ferry also runs from Valletta's Grand Harbour to Mġarr, taking around 45 minutes at €5 one way. On Gozo itself, car hire is the most practical option - you can bring a rental over from Malta or hire one on arrival at Mġarr. The bus network covers 16 routes across Gozo, all departing from Victoria, at €2.50 per journey. Bolt taxis operate at the ferry terminal and via the app. Summer weekend warning: car queues at Ċirkewwa can exceed two hours - book your vehicle slot online in advance, travel as a foot passenger, or hire a car on the Gozo side.
