Spartia's a small village so there is only one hotel that meets our standards in the village itself (which means there are often no rooms avaliable) so often our gusts will stay at larger resorts nearby.

• Panas Hotel - Our favourite in Spartia itself, a friendly family-run hotel with rooms looking out over either the Ionian Sea or the green hills behind, plus an on-site restaurant, a bar and an infinity-edge feel from the clifftop position.

• Lassi - 15 minutes by car, Kefalonia's main beach resort with sandy beaches, a strip of bars and restaurants and easy airport access. The pick if your priority is a sandy beachfront base with Spartia on the doorstep.

• Argostoli - 15 minutes by car, the island capital with the best food scene and a buzzing harbour walk. The pick for travellers who want urban energy as the main holiday feel with the village side as a day out.

• Svoronata - The next village along the airport road, a couple of kilometres away, with traditional charm, olive groves and uncrowded beaches just down the slope. Same calm rhythm as Spartia with a slightly bigger village core and a few more options for accomodation.

A family holiday base in Spartia works well if you've hired a car and want to mix calm-cove beach days with proper exploring, without a busy resort strip outside the door.

• 🏖️ Beach day at Klimatsias - The closest cove to the village, calm shallow water and a mix of sand and rocks. A proper family-picnic spot with the village a short walk back when you've had enough sun.

• 🏰 Visit Agios Georgios Castle - 20 minutes inland, the ruined Venetian fortress sits on a hilltop with sweeping views back over the south coast. Free to visit and properly atmospheric for older kids.

• 🐢 Argostoli harbour walk - 15 minutes north, the capital's working port where loggerhead turtles regularly bob around the boats waiting for the fishermen's offcuts. Proper kid-pleasing wildlife moment.
