Brac Island
If you want to experience Croatia's most famous beach without all the celebrity madness of Hvar, Brac Island's absolutely your answer! This gorgeous island is basically the secret that locals have been keeping to themselves - all the stunning natural beauty and authentic Croatian charm, but without the crowds and sky-high prices that come with being a trendy hotspot.
Home to Croatia's most iconic beach
Brac is world-famous for one brilliant reason - Zlatni Rat (Golden Horn), the most photographed beach in all of Croatia! This mental stretch of white pebbles literally extends like a tongue into the crystal-clear Adriatic for 400 meters, constantly changing shape with the currents and winds. The beach is a windsurfer's paradise thanks to the constant breezy conditions, and it's surrounded by gorgeous pine forests that provide natural shade. But here's the best bit - the whole south side of the island is dotted with equally stunning pebble beaches that are way less crowded!
Proper mountain adventures
When you fancy a break from beach lounging, you can hike up Vidova Gora - at 778 meters, it's the highest peak on any Adriatic island! The views from the top are absolutely mental - you can see the entire island of Hvar spread out below you, plus the mainland coast stretching for miles. It's the kind of vista that'll have you understanding why people fall in love with Croatia. Plus, the hiking trails wind through ancient olive groves (over half a million trees!) and traditional stone villages that feel like stepping back in time.
Authentic Croatian island life
Unlike some of the glitzier islands, Brac's still got that proper, authentic vibe. The main town of Bol has charming traditional restaurants serving brilliant local specialities like roasted lamb and sheep cheese, while Supetar (the ferry port) features beautiful baroque churches and fascinating sculptural cemeteries. The island's famous for producing some of Croatia's finest olive oil and that gorgeous white stone that's been used in buildings from Diocletian's Palace to the White House!
The brilliant thing about Brac is you get world-class beaches, mountain adventures, authentic culture, and excellent wine and food. It's basically everything you love about Croatian islands! 🏔️🏖️
