Beach therapy: 5 best beaches to visit on holiday!

A good beach holiday can do you the world of good, so we’ve found you a selection of award-winning, idyllic and pretty much the best beaches to visit on holiday in our most popular destinations – some just a couple of hours’ flight from the UK. With top beaches in Greece, Spain and Turkey, you don’t have to travel far to indulge in some beach time!

Best beaches to visit on holiday… countdown!

5 – Falesia Beach in Albufeira, Portugal

You only need a couple of hours in the sky to reach the home of this TripAdvisor Travellers Choice award winner. Stretching out along the coast of Albufeira, Falesia Beach is a great spot for a good stroll along the sand. The sea is generally calm if you’re looking to bob around on a lilo or get the kids splashing around in the shallow areas. It’s no surprise that this idyllic beach gets a lot of visitors, so take a walk down the beach to find quieter spots away from the main entrance!

4- Playa de ses Illetes, Formentera

It may only be three hours’ flight from the UK, but the small island of Formentera can sometimes get forgotten. Just a short ferry ride from the mainland, it’s home to Playa de ses Illetes. Walk along the long, peaceful shore or snorkel your way through the crystal clear waters.

3 – Iztuzu Beach in Dalyan, Turkey

Iztuzu beach in the stunning area of Dalyan is also known as the turtle beach, which gives a clue as to what you’ll find there. Four hours’ flight from the UK, it’s the breeding ground for large loggerhead sea turtles, which lay their eggs in a protected area and hatch between May and October. The 4.4km long white sand beach creates a barrier between the fresh water delta of the Dalyan River and the shallow Mediterranean Sea – great for paddling if you have little ones!

2 – Fig Tree Bay in Protaras, Cyprus

If you tend to get a little restless (or hungry!) on the beach then Fig Tree Bay in Protaras has everything you need! This 500m blue flag beach is lined with fig trees and close to plenty of superb restaurants where you can drop in for a long lunch. There are plenty of resorts close by too, so you can choose a hotel nearby and walk a short distance to this beautiful beach. Not bad for just over four hours’ flight!

1 – St. Paul’s Bay in Lindos, Greece

Lindos is a popular wedding venue, not only because of the little white chapel overlooking the beach, but also its picturesque beaches and bright blue waters. Five hours from the UK, its rocky cliffs provide shelter from the hot midday sun, while the sunbeds and parasols available throughout the summer are ideal for sun worshippers.

Have you visited any of these beaches? We would love to hear what you thought of them! If you’ve visited more than one.. (lucky you!) tell us your favourite!
