Hotels close to Walt Disney World

Location is everything. That's why you swipe that parking space right next to the supermarket, that's why you send the kids to the school just round the corner, and that's why you want a hotel that's actually *close* to the Disney action. We get it. Bag one of these bad boys and you're just a hop, skip and a jump from saying 'good morning' to Mickey himself! In some cases you'll even have handy shuttle services to get you there in a flash.

How much does it cost to go to Disney World in Orlando?

The cost of your overall holiday depends on a few things: the hotel you pick (we know - decisions, decisions), how close you want to be to the parks, and what time of year you travel. If you're looking for a magical holibobs without the royal price tag, try opting for a more budget 3-star hotel, and jet off outside of peak season if you can. September, January and early February are usually the cheapest times to go.

As for park tickets, the average cost of a 1-Day adult ticket can range between $109 and $189 per day, depending on the time of year. However, you can usually get better value if you go for a multi-day ticket - for example, 5-Day tickets start at $100 per day. Standard tickets give you access to one park per day, but you can also go for a 'park hopper' option which costs a bit extra, but means you can come and go as you please between the different parks in the same day! The good news is, kids under 3 can get in for free. More good news? Most hotels in the area offer FREE shuttle services to the parks, so you don't have to add the cost of actually getting there from your hotel.

Is Universal Studios part of Disney?

Although they're often grouped together in conversation, these are actually two completely separate parks owned by different companies. If you're looking for all the classic Pixar characters and Disney princesses, then Disney World is your guy. Looking for Harry Potter World, Scooby-Doo characters and Marvel heroes? You'll find those at Universal.

Universal is made up of three sections:

  • Universal Studios

  • Islands of Adventure

  • Volcano Bay (a waterpark)

...and is significantly smaller than Disney World. It's also handy to know that because both parks are considered competitors, shuttle services don't run between the two - so you'd need to arrange your own transport if you fancy hopping from one to the other.

Which Disney park is best for families?

Not to be *that* person, but...all of 'em! But we know that's not the answer you're looking for, otherwise you wouldn't have clicked this dropdown. So we'll stop wasting your time. With life-sized characters, fun rides and all the magical vibes, it's true that all of the parks are great for families in their own way. But if one had to come out on top, we'd recommend Magic Kingdom for the little ones. It's got a bunch of rides without height restrictions, and it's home to the whopping Cinderella castle that you've probable seen everywhere. What more could you want?!
