Cordoba is an unusual location for us, the more geographically observant of you may have already noticed - it’s not on the coast, instead it’s nestled in the heart of southern Spain, but it is near enough to the fabulous beaches of Malaga and the Costa del Sol that you have top notch beach action just a short trip away. When to Visit Cordoba

🌸 Spring (March–May) | Highs of 18-28°C

This is Cordoba at its absolute best – warm weather, flowers everywhere, and a month-long festival calendar. Semana Santa (Holy Week, late March/April) brings solemn processions through narrow streets with ornate floats and Andalusian tradition. The Battle of the Flowers (late April/1 May) sees flower-decked floats parade through town. Cruces de Mayo (May Crosses, late April–4 May) fills squares with giant flower-adorned crosses competing for the best display. Then comes the big one – Fiesta de los Patios (4-17 May 2026) when 50+ private courtyards open their doors for the UNESCO-listed Patio Festival. Absolutely unmissable. The month wraps up with Feria de Córdoba (24-31 May 2025), a brilliant week of flamenco, horses, casetas (party tents open to everyone, unlike Seville!), and celebrations at the El Arenal fairground.

☀️ Summer (June–August) | Highs of 33-40°C

Scorching hot – Cordoba regularly tops 40°C in July and August, making it one of Spain's hottest cities. But the evenings are magical when temperatures drop and the city comes alive. Noche Blanca del Flamenco (21 June) is a free all-night flamenco spectacular across multiple stages throughout the city – utterly brilliant if you can stay awake. Various neighbourhood ferias happen throughout July. Visit the Mezquita first thing in the morning before the heat builds, then hide in shady courtyards and air-conditioned tapas bars until sunset.

🍂 Autumn (September–November) | Highs of 20-30°C

Lovely temperatures return with far fewer tourists. September brings the Montilla-Moriles Wine Harvest celebrations in the surrounding wine region – perfect for sampling local fino and amontillado wines. The weather's still warm enough for outdoor dining and evening strolls through the Jewish Quarter without the summer crowds. Brilliant time for day trips to Medina Azahara or the Sierra Subbética white villages.

❄️ Winter (December–February) | Highs of 10-16°C

Mild and peaceful – Cordoba in winter is a hidden gem. Christmas markets and festive decorations light up the streets, and the Three Kings Parade (5 January) is a proper local celebration with floats and sweets thrown to crowds. Medieval Market (late January) recreates the city's multicultural past with crafts, food, and entertainment. Carnaval (late February/early March) brings costumes, parades, and street parties before Lent. Hotel prices drop significantly and you'll have the Mezquita almost to yourself.

  • Malaga – Just over an hour by train, perfect for adding some beach time to your city break. Picasso's birthplace, brilliant museums, and gorgeous Mediterranean coastline.
