Praia da Oura is where the Algarve turns the volume up. This golden beach sits right at the bottom of Albufeira's famous Strip — the neon-lit stretch of bars, clubs and late-night venues that's been pulling in party-goers from across Europe for decades. By day it's a proper Blue Flag beach with soft sand, clean water and watersports galore. By night, the action moves uphill to The Strip, and it doesn't stop until sunrise.
But here's the thing — Praia da Oura isn't just for the party crowd. The beach itself is gorgeous, the morning atmosphere is calm, and the eastern end (known as Praia dos Bicos) is quieter with pine-topped cliffs and rock formations. If you want the best of both worlds — proper beach days and big nights out — this is the spot.

Good to Know
☀️ Summers hit 28-30°C with barely any rain from May to October. Peak party season is late June to end of August, when The Strip is at its busiest and the beach is packed.
💶 Drinks on The Strip are cheap by UK standards — pints from €2-3 and cocktails from €5-7. Meals at the beach restaurants run €10-15 per head. Albufeira municipality charges a tourist tax of up to €2 per person per night.
🔊 The name "Oura" likely comes from "ouro" (gold in Portuguese), referencing the golden sand. The beach is about 900m long and splits into two sections — the busier western end near The Strip and the quieter eastern end at Praia dos Bicos.

The Strip - Albufeira's Nightlife HQ
Let's not dance around it — The Strip is the main reason a lot of people book Praia da Oura jollies. Officially called Avenida Sa Carneiro, it runs directly above the beach and is the biggest concentration of bars, clubs and late-night venues anywhere in the Algarve.
The road is one-way and pedestrianised in the evenings during peak season, so it turns into one long bar crawl from top to bottom. There are over 30 venues packed along the strip and the surrounding streets, and the scene runs roughly from late afternoon through to sunrise between June and September. Outside of peak season, things are quieter — some venues close for winter, but the bigger names stay open from April through to October.
🍻 Matt's Bar — One of the most popular spots on The Strip. Big screens, loud music, cheap drinks and a crowd that's up for it from early evening.
🎵 Kiss — An Albufeira institution since 1981. One of the bigger clubs, open until 7am in peak season. Multiple rooms, themed nights and a crowd that skews younger.
💃 Club Vida — A club with a dancefloor that gets properly packed from about 1am onwards. One of the go-to spots for the after-midnight crowd.
🎤 La Bamba — Karaoke, cocktails and a lively atmosphere. One of those places where you end up staying longer than you planned.
🍹 Libertos — Late-night club with DJs, themed events and drinks deals. Another one that goes until the early hours.
Good to know: Drinks on The Strip are cheap — pints from about €2-3, cocktails from €5-7, and most bars run happy hours and deals through the early evening. The crowd is mainly British, Dutch and Scandinavian, and hen/stag groups are a big part of the summer scene. Things don't really kick off until after 10pm, and the clubs don't fill up until midnight or later.
If The Strip is too full-on, Albufeira Old Town has its own nightlife scene centred around Rua Candido dos Reis and Largo Engenheiro Duarte Pacheco — still lively, but with more live music, open-air terraces and a slightly more grown-up feel. It's about a 20-minute walk or a €5-8 taxi.
Local Lingo

FAQs
Is Praia da Oura good for families?
Is Praia da Oura good for families?
It can work, especially if you stay at one of the Muthu resorts with kids' clubs and all-inclusive options. The beach is fine for families in the morning when it's calm. That said, the area's identity is firmly party-focused, and The Strip gets very lively (and loud) at night. Families looking for a quieter base might prefer the Santa Eulalia area of Albufeira, which is just a 15-minute walk east of Praia da Oura and has a much more relaxed, family-friendly feel. The Grande Real Santa Eulalia Resort is right on that beach and purpose-built for families.
