Climate Overview

Oman treats you to sunshine nearly every day of the year, with blue skies and balmy weather that rarely takes a holiday itself. The coast, from Muscat to Salalah, stays invitingly warm, and you'll notice the Arabian Sea keeps things toasty even in winter. If you're after somewhere that lets you swap your raincoat for shades almost any month, Oman’s got you covered.

A little heads-up: the southern region around Salalah does its own thing during summer, catching the khareef monsoon and turning lush when the rest of the country is bone dry. Otherwise, it’s all about dry heat, long days, and warm sea - no wonder Oman’s beaches are a hit for winter sun seekers.

Seasons Overview

Spring (March - May): From March to May, Oman hits its stride with air temperatures warming from 29°C up to a whopping 39°C by May. The sea follows suit, rising to 31°C, and rainfall all but disappears. Days are bright and mostly dry, so it’s prime time for beach days without feeling like you’re inside a sauna.

Summer (June - August): June to August brings serious heat, with the mercury peaking at 40°C and sea temperatures holding steady at 32°C. Humidity edges up, making things feel extra warm, but rain barely makes a cameo. It’s the kind of weather where you might appreciate a poolside siesta in the shade.

Autumn (September - November): September to November keeps things hot, starting out at 36°C and easing down to 31°C by November. Rain remains scarce, with barely a drip, and the sea stays warm for swimming. Long, sunny days continue, but the heat slowly becomes a bit more manageable for holibobs.

Winter (December - February): December through February is Oman's version of cool: air temperatures hover between 25°C and 27°C, and the sea stays inviting at 24°C or above. This is when Oman feels its freshest, with just the odd light shower to break up the sunshine. Winter sun doesn’t get much better than this.

Best Time To Visit

For a beach holiday, the sweet spot in Oman is from November to March. During these months, air temperatures sit comfortably between 25°C and 31°C, the sea is a balmy 24°C to 27°C, and rain is minimal. You get loads of sun and just enough warmth to make the most of those sandy stretches without melting. If you fancy something different, Salalah’s khareef in July and August brings green hills and cooler air - a top-tier escape if you want a break from the desert heat.
