Limone sul Garda is one of Lake Garda's prettiest towns, tucked between dramatic mountain cliffs and crystal-clear water on the lake's western shore. Famous for its ancient lemon groves and pastel-painted old town, it's a proper charmer with cobbled lanes, a buzzing harbour, and some of the best lakeside cycling in Italy. Small enough to feel relaxed, big enough to keep you busy.

Good to Know - Holidays to Limone 2026 / 2027

  • ☀️ Summers hit 26-27°C with around 8 hours of sunshine a day. Winters are mild for the mountains, rarely dropping below 5°C thanks to the lake's microclimate.

  • 💶 A pint of beer runs about €5-6 in the old town, and a pizza or pasta dish starts from around €9. Limone is one of the better-value spots on Lake Garda compared to the southern resorts.

  • 🍋 Despite the name, "Limone" actually comes from the Latin word limen, meaning border - this was the frontier town between Lombardy and Trentino. The lemon connection came later, but locals have run with it brilliantly.

FAQs

How do I get to Limone sul Garda from the airport?

Most Lake Garda flights land at Verona Villafranca Airport, which is about 90 minutes from Limone by road. You can add a transfer to your booking with On the Beach for a good price and you don't need to stress when you land because you know there'll be someone waiting for you at arrivals. If you'd rather sort your own way, taxis and hire cars are available at the airport, or you can take a shuttle bus to Verona Porta Nuova station and catch a bus to Riva del Garda, then a local bus or ferry to Limone.

Is Limone sul Garda good for families?

It's a brilliant spot for families, especially if your kids are happy pottering around a pretty town, swimming in the lake, and hopping on ferries. The free pebble beach in the centre is easy to get to, and the larger family hotels like the Leonardo Da Vinci and Hotel Royal Village have pools, kids' clubs, and shuttle buses into town. For bigger theme park days, Gardaland is about an hour south near Peschiera del Garda.

Can I get around Lake Garda from Limone?

Absolutely. The Navigarda ferry network connects Limone to towns all around the lake, and it's half the fun - the views from the water are stunning. Buses run along the western shore, and a hire car opens up day trips to Verona (about 90 minutes), Venice, and the Dolomites. Several Limone hotels also run their own shuttle buses into the town centre.

What's the food like in Limone?

Proper good. Expect fresh lake fish, homemade pasta, wood-fired pizzas, and locally produced olive oil. Limone's lemon products are everywhere - limoncello, lemon sorbet, lemon cake. A pizza or pasta dish starts from about €9, and a lakefront dinner for two with wine will set you back around €40-50. Don't miss the gelato, either.

Is Limone hilly?

Very. Most hotels are built into the hillside above the town, so expect steep walks. Almost all of them run shuttle buses to help, and the walks down into the old town are gorgeous once you get used to them. If mobility is a concern, it's worth checking your hotel's specific location before booking.
