Peschiera del Garda is a proper little stunner - a UNESCO-listed fortress town right at the southern tip of Lake Garda. The old town sits inside star-shaped Venetian fortress walls surrounded by canals, and it's packed with restaurants, gelato shops and lakeside promenades. It's one of the most popular bases on the lake for families, mainly because Gardaland (Italy's biggest theme park) is just 2km down the road with a free shuttle bus from the station. Peschiera also has its own train station on the Milan-Venice line, which makes it one of the easiest spots on Lake Garda to reach.
For the full guide to Lake Garda including Riva del Garda, Limone, Bardolino and more, see our main Lake Garda page.
📌 Good to Know for your Peschiera Del Garda Holidays
🎢 Gardaland is right on the doorstep - Italy's biggest theme park is 2km away. A free shuttle bus runs from Peschiera train station every 30 minutes during the season (late March to early November). Adult tickets from around €42-56, kids up to 9 from around €39. Book online for the best price.
🚂 Easy to reach - Peschiera has its own train station on the Milan-Venice mainline. Verona is 15 minutes away, Venice about 1.5 hours, Milan about 1.5 hours. Nearest airport is Verona Villafranca, about 22km away.
🏖️ Pebbly beaches with clear water - Spiaggia dei Cappuccini and Spiaggia dei Pioppi are the main lakeside beaches, both walkable from the old town. The water on this southern stretch of the lake is calm and shallow, brilliant for kids.

🌤️ When to Visit Peschiera del Garda
☀️ Summer (June - August) | 24-30°C
Peak season. The lake is warm enough for swimming, Gardaland is in full swing and the town buzzes with restaurants open late. July and August are the busiest (and most expensive) months.
🌸 Spring (April - May) | 15-22°C
Gardaland opens late March. The weather is warm enough for cycling and boat trips, and the crowds are much thinner than summer. Parco Sigurta's tulip season (March-April) is spectacular.
🍂 Autumn (September - October) | 18-25°C
September is warm with fewer crowds. The Lugana grape harvest happens around this time and local wine festivals pop up. Gardaland stays open until early November.
❄️ Winter (November - February) | 5-12°C
Quieter and cooler. Some restaurants and hotels close for the season. Gardaland reopens for its Magic Winter event in December with Christmas markets and themed shows. Verona's Christmas market is 15 minutes by train.
