Kassandra is an absolute stun destination, offering everything from stylish, hidden coves to lively resorts, making it a 10/10 choice for friends, couples, and families who want a grade-A mix of relaxation and fun.
💡 Good to Know
☀️ Weather: Kassandra runs hot from June to September, with temperatures between 28 and 33°C and the Aegean reaching 24 to 26°C at peak summer. The pine forests behind the beaches provide welcome shade at midday. September is the sweet spot, warm sea, thinning crowds and a noticeably more relaxed pace across the peninsula.
💶 Money: Kassandra is good value for a Greek beach destination. A beach bar beer is around £2 to £3, a taverna dinner for two comes in at £25 to £45, and many of the beaches are free outside the organised sunbed areas. The bigger resort areas have everything you need, including cash machines, supermarkets and car hire offices.
🎉 Fun fact: Kassandra was formerly known as Flegra, meaning "place of fire," and according to Greek mythology it was here that the Gigantomachy took place, the legendary battle between the Olympian gods and the Giants. The peninsula was literally the setting for one of the greatest fights in ancient myth. The beaches are considerably more peaceful these days.
Highlights of your Kassandra Holidays 2026 / 2027
Miles of sandy beaches backed by fragrant pine forests, with water so clear you can see the fish from your sunlounger
The most developed beach bar and nightlife scene in Halkidiki, with Kallithea's Pearl Club among the most famous clubs in northern Greece
A genuinely varied peninsula with hilltop villages, ancient ruins, secluded west-coast coves and lively east-coast resorts all within easy reach of each other
Best beaches for your Kassandra holidays
Kassandra's coastline is predominantly sandy, the water is calm and transparent, and beaches range from fully organised resort strips to quiet pine-backed coves depending on which coast you're on. The east coast has the main resorts and the buzz; the west coast is quieter and more relaxed.
Kallithea Beach – the most cosmopolitan stretch on the peninsula, backed by pine-covered hills and the ancient ruins of the Temple of Zeus Ammon. Golden sand, calm shallow water with no waves, sunbeds, watersports and beach bars running all day. The right-hand section is particularly good for families with young children. The most complete beach experience on Kassandra.
Sani Beach – on the quieter west coast, a long stretch of fine white sand backed by one of Halkidiki's most famous pine forests. The Sani Resort sits in the dunes here, but the beach itself stretches well beyond it. A 3km nature trail called the Sani Walk leads south through the forest to Golden Beach, one of the most rewarding easy hikes on the peninsula.
Possidi Beach – at the very tip of the peninsula's west coast, this sweeping sandy beach is one of Kassandra's most beautiful. A lighthouse marks the point and the water on both sides is calm and very clear. Less developed than the east coast beaches, with a quieter, more authentic atmosphere.
Hanioti Beach – a long sandy strip in the popular resort of Hanioti, with good facilities, watersports and everything within easy walking distance. One of the most family-friendly setups on the east coast, with a flat, easily navigable layout and the beach practically on the doorstep of the accommodation.
Pefkochori Beach – another long stretch on the east coast with excellent facilities, backed by the pine trees that give the village its name. Consistently good water quality and a well-organised beach setup with sunbeds, bars and watersports available throughout the day.
Siviri Beach – one of the finest sandy beaches on the west coast, with particularly fine, soft sand and a calmer, less crowded atmosphere than the main east coast resorts. A great option for a change of scene from the busier stretches.
Afytos (Athytos) Beach – below the beautiful hilltop village of Afytos, a quieter cove reached by steps down from the village. The setting, with the village perched above and the sea stretching out below, is one of the most picturesque on the peninsula. Worth the walk down.
Where to stay
Kassandra's most popular resorts are spread along the east coast, each with its own character and suited to different types of travellers. Check out the breathtaking range that are halkidiki hotels too!
For families: Hanioti and Pefkochori are the most family-friendly bases on the east coast, with long accessible beaches, flat layouts and good facilities close together. The west coast villages of Siviri and Skala Fourka are quieter and well-suited to families who want a more relaxed pace.
For couples: Afytos is the romantic pick on Kassandra, a beautifully preserved stone village perched on a hillside with sea views, traditional tavernas and a genuinely unhurried atmosphere. The Sani area on the west coast is the most upmarket and peaceful option, with a luxury resort and long empty beach.
For groups: Kallithea is the undisputed group destination on Kassandra, with the best nightlife on the peninsula, the largest shopping strip in Halkidiki and beach bars that run from morning to midnight. Polychrono, a short distance south, is another lively option with a long beach and a good bar scene.

Things to do for families
Kassandra is one of the most family-ready destinations in northern Greece, with safe, calm beaches, organised watersports and enough to keep all ages busy without much forward planning.
Crazyland Water Park, Glarokavos – a large inflatable water park in the sea just off Glarokavos Beach, with slides, climbing frames and water activities for all ages. A brilliant full or half-day out that younger children absolutely love. Bookable on the day at the beach.
Sani Walk nature trail – the 3km trail through the Sani pine forest to Golden Beach is a genuinely lovely easy family hike, with coastal views through the trees and the beach as the reward at the end. Free, well-marked and suitable for all ages.
Boat trip around Kassandra – day cruises around the peninsula depart from several of the larger resorts and visit beaches and coves that are otherwise inaccessible by road. Swimming stops, snorkelling, lunch on board and a genuinely different view of the coastline. Around £30 to £40 per person, with lower rates for children.
Afytos village – the most beautiful village on the peninsula, with stone-built houses, a lovely central square and a small archaeological site. An easy and very pleasant half-day out from the beach resorts, and the views from the top over the sea are superb.
Petralona Cave day trip – around 40 minutes from the Kassandra peninsula, the Petralona Cave contains some of the most important prehistoric remains in Europe, including a 700,000-year-old Homo erectus skull. A proper educational day trip that genuinely captures the imagination of older children. Entry around £8 to £10 per person.
Things to do for couples
Kassandra has a livelier reputation, but it has real romantic credentials for couples who know where to look.
Sunset in Afytos village – sit at one of the stone-paved tavernas in Afytos as the sun drops over the Aegean below. One of the best sunset views in Halkidiki and a completely different atmosphere from the beach resort world a few kilometres away. Order the local wine and stay for dinner.
Private sailing cruise – the coves and sea caves around Kassandra's coastline are only accessible by boat. Private day charters and sunset cruises depart from the main resort harbours and give you the coastline entirely to yourselves. A genuinely memorable shared experience.
Wine tasting in Halkidiki – the hills of Kassandra and the broader Halkidiki region have a growing wine scene, with varieties including Assyrtiko, Malagouzia and the ancient Limnio grape mentioned by Aristotle himself. Several wineries offer tastings and tours, a lovely half-day away from the beach.
Explore Nea Fokea – a quieter village on the east coast with a 15th-century Byzantine tower, an underground sanctuary of Saint Paul and a lovely laid-back harbour. A good change of pace for a couple who wants to see a more authentic side of Kassandra beyond the resort strips.
Mount Athos boat cruise – a day trip departing from Ouranoupolis (around an hour from Kassandra) sails within 500 metres of the cliff-perched monasteries of Mount Athos, a monastic republic that has existed essentially unchanged for over a thousand years. Women are permitted on the boat, just not to land. An extraordinary and completely unique experience.
Things to do for groups
Kassandra is genuinely one of the best group destinations in Greece, with a beach scene and nightlife infrastructure that rivals anything in the Mediterranean.
Pearl Club, Kallithea – consistently rated among the most impressive nightclubs in northern Greece, with an outdoor setting, big-name DJs and a capacity that makes it feel like a proper event every night. The centrepiece of Kassandra's party scene.
Beach bar days in Kallithea – the beach bars along Kallithea's strip run all-day parties with music, dancing, foam events and the kind of atmosphere that starts at noon and doesn't stop. A full group beach day here ticks every box.
Bouzouki clubs – live bouzouki concerts featuring well-known Greek singers are a genuine cultural experience that most international visitors completely miss. Several venues around Kassandra and the wider Halkidiki region host these through the summer. An extraordinary night out if you're open to something completely different.
Private boat party – charter a catamaran or motor yacht from one of the resort harbours and spend the day at sea with the group. Champagne, swimming stops, turquoise water and your own itinerary. Kassandra's reputation as the go-to destination for group sailing celebrations in Halkidiki is well earned.
Full-day beach club experience – the organised beach clubs along the east coast offer sunbeds, watersports, cocktail menus and music in a properly well-run setup. A group day here, with jet skis, parasailing and the beach bar, is a very easy excellent day to have.
Local Lingo
Greek is the language of Kassandra, and while English is widely spoken across the main tourist resorts, a few words in Greek always land well with locals and taverna owners away from the main strips.
Yia sas (Γεια σας) – Hello / Goodbye (formal)
Yia sou (Γεια σου) – Hi / Bye (informal)
Efharisto (Ευχαριστώ) – Thank you
Parakalo (Παρακαλώ) – Please / You're welcome
Stin iyia mas (Στην υγειά μας) – Cheers
Poso kani? (Πόσο κάνει;) – How much is it?
Ena freddo parakalo (Ένα φρέντο παρακαλώ) – One iced coffee please (the most important phrase in Greece, June through September)
One thing worth knowing: Greek dining runs late. Turning up to a taverna before 8pm marks you out as a tourist. After 9pm the locals arrive, the food is fresher and the atmosphere is considerably more interesting.
