Dive into history (literally)
Museo Atlántico is the only underwater museum in Europe (yep, you read that right) - and it's one of the most unique dive sites in Lanzarote. Grab your flippers and your wetsuit, and book yourself on a diving tour to this eery (but super cool) underwater world of sculptures crafted by Jason deCaires Taylor.
Channel your inner cowboy at Rancho Texas
If you've got the kiddos with you, this action-packed park is guaranteed to keep them entertained for a day (and worn out for a full day after). It's part zoo, part waterpark, part cactus garden. Apart from splishing and splashing on rides, you can make friends with the likes of dolphins, sea lions and bison, and even take part in a Wild West-themed treasure hunt. Erm, sign us up!
Take a dip in the natural pools at Los Charcones
Looking for a hidden gem? Los Charcones is a stretch of natural rock pools located just outside of Playa Blanca, offering some of the most peaceful and stunning swimming spots for your Lanzarote holidays. These pools range from small and shallow to deep and expansive, perfect for a day of relaxing swims or Insta-worthy moments. The dramatic rocky coastline makes it feel like your own private retreat – just don’t forget your towel and sun cream!
Get artsy at the César Manrique Foundation
Lanzarote wouldn’t be the same without César Manrique’s unique touch, and you can get up close and personal with his creations at the César Manrique Foundation. His former home, built into lava bubbles, is now a gallery showcasing his art and architectural genius.
Take in the view from Mirador del Rio
One of the most unique creations by artist César Manrique (that's right, we can't get enough of the guy), this viewpoint is one you won't want to miss. You'll find it in the windswept clifftops of Risco de Famara, and while there's a small entrance fee, it's totally worth it for the panoramic views in store. This is where you'll have the best view of Lanzarote's seascapes, national parks and neighbouring islands.
What's the food like in Lanzarote?
From fresh seafood to sizzling skewers cooked by geothermal heat (it's giving GCSE science), Lanzarote's food scene has something for everyone. Make sure to give these local dishes a try:
Papas arrugadas - otherwise known as 'wrinkly potatoes', these salty, crispy bites of deliciousness are way tastier than they sound - best served with spicy mojo sauce
Queso de Cabra - local goat's cheese which you can enjoy fresh, smoked or grilled. It's creamy, it's tangy and it's downright delish.
Conejo en Salmorejo - rabbit marinated in a traditional Canarian sauce of garlic, spices, vinegar and red wine
Puntillas de Calamar - whole baby squids that are deep-fried to create a crispy, salty flavour bomb - best served with a squeeze of lemon
Prickly pears - once you peel back the prickly cactus-like exterior, you're left with a sweet, red centre that's used in jams, sorbets and even some savoury dishes - you'll find them in the burgers at Jardin de Cactus!
Caldo de pesco - a refreshing fish soup, often served as a lunch or starter. Recipes can vary from clear broths to thick, heartier soups, but both kinds go down a treat with some crusty bread.
Bienmesabe - a sweet almond dessert made with honey, egg yolk and ground almonds, often served as a pudding with a scoop of ice cream. Yum!
Lanzarote’s food scene is an absolute 10/10, serving up everything from traditional Canarian dishes to cutting-edge culinary experiences. Here are some top spots that should be on your must-eat list when you’re on your holidays to Lanzarote:
La Cascada Puerto, Puerto del Carmen – If you’re after a proper Canarian feast, La Cascada is the place to go. Known for its grilled meats and fresh seafood, the portions here are mahoosive. Make sure you try the grilled octopus and the Canarian goat stew – you won’t leave hungry, that’s for sure.
El Diablo, Timanfaya National Park – Ever had food cooked by a volcano? Well, at El Diablo, you can. Located right in the heart of Timanfaya National Park, this unique restaurant uses geothermal heat to grill your food. The views of the volcanic landscape are as stunning as the food itself – the volcanic-grilled chicken is a must.
Los Aljibes de Tahiche, Tahiche – Designed by César Manrique himself, this spot is a hidden gem to try on your Lanzarote holidays. The vibe is rustic yet chic, and the menu is a blend of traditional and modern Canarian flavours.
La Tegala, Macher – For a Michelin-level experience, La Tegala is a must-visit. This swanky spot puts a modern twist on classic Canarian ingredients, and their tasting menu is top-tier. Expect dishes that look like works of art – and taste even better.
La Cabaña, Macher – A small, intimate restaurant, La Cabaña serves up fusion cuisine with a mix of Canarian and international influences. Tucked away in Macher, this is the perfect spot for a cosy, top-notch meal in a relaxed setting.
