Being my first beach holiday in three years, five nights at the 4* Sol Lanzarote was just what the doctor ordered. Knowing it’s one of our most popular hotels year after year, I had high hopes for this beach-side beauty, and I wasn’t disappointed…
Only a 10 minute taxi ride from Arrecife Airport, the hotel is located along the beautiful coast of Matagorda in Puerto del Carmen.
Upon arrival, we were met by a gorgeous water feature right in the centre of reception, and a hint of one of the hotel’s large swimming pools glistening through the doors behind it.
We eagerly checked in and headed up to our room – it was large, modern and had a HUGE bed. You could tell straight away that the room had not long been renovated, and even had a large balcony overlooking the pools towards the sea. We were staying in one of the hotel’s Sol Rooms, and it was plenty spacious for two people.
After dropping our bags and donning our swimwear, we headed out to enjoy a lazy afternoon around the pool.
The Sol Lanzarote is an All Inclusive hotel – and boy did we take advantage! The range of food on offer and the ease at which it could be accessed was the best of any All Inclusive I’ve been to. I may have come back a stone heavier (I blame the snack bar in particular), but we saved so much money on food and drink compared to previous self catering holidays, it was more than worth it.
Aside from breakfast (8:30-10:30), lunch (13:30-15:30) and dinner (19:00-21:30), there is a snack bar you can help yourself to from 12:00-17:00, so you’ll never go hungry.
You can forget long waits at the bar too; with help-yourself taps for beer, wine, soft drinks and slushies, bar queues are non-existent. The only thing you can’t help yourself to is spirits (for obvious reasons!), but the bartenders are ready and waiting to get you anything you want, including an extensive list of cocktails.
One of the most impressive things about the hotel is the entertainment. Day and night, the animation team work tirelessly to make sure all the guests are having the best time. They’re particularly great with the kids staying at the resort, but get the adults involved too.
When I was visiting, the team put on an amateur stage performance of Mamma Mia and Grease, getting the whole room involved in sing-a-longs and ending in a disco for the little ones.
During the day, there were aqua aerobics, pool sports and, as part of the kids club, the team even threw a birthday party for one of the Sol Melia yeti mascots, Maiya.
The hotel is also ideally situated so that you can get public transport or a quick taxi ride to the lively centre of Puerto del Carmen. With tons of bars and restaurants, you’ll be spoilt for choice.
We made our way from bar to bar sampling some of the live music on offer and chatting to locals and tourists alike, before heading back for a nightcap at the hotel.
If you’re looking for amazing value-for-money and all-year-round sunshine, you have to check out the Sol Lanzarote. Brilliant for families, couples and groups and in such a great location, you’re sure to have an incredible time.
