I have just returned from a holiday in Calella a few days ago. I travelled with my boyfriend, we are both working professionals. I was disappointed by the cheap, unclassy atmosphere the hotel gives. To highlight a few things that stood out, we came across gambling machines, chavy uneducated people staying in the hotel, had to pay 20 euros deposit for remote control, asked to pay 7 or 8 euros per day for using the safe, food is well under 4 star standards, usually can only choose between fish (full of bones sometimes) and chicken, the dinner is only open between 8:30 and 9:30 pm, we ended up missing dinner several times as we were in Barcelona, and most of the counters are full of cheap food like salami, cheeses, the hotel is one and a half hours by train away from Barcelona, despite us thinking it's only 45 mins away, as advertised on several websites, the hotel is 15 minutes walk from the train station which is quite a lot considering we were travelling daily to Barcelona. We lost 3.5 hours per day only on travelling there and back. The rooms were ok but they forget to replenish soap and the saquets they provide for shower gel and shampoo are very bad quality and tiny, definitely not enough to have a proper shower. I am unsure whether the people who gave this hotel an excellent rating either work for the hotel or have a financial interest in it because there is no way this is the equivalent of a four star hotel. My opinion may be biased by the fact that I like elegant classy places, this is definitely not one of them, I knew this as soon as I saw the gambling machines and the cheap shop and vending machines in the hotel lobby near the reception. We purchased this holiday for £852 from lastminute.com for 5 days. I was sure that the price we paid plus the 4 star rating of this hotel would mean we will have an amazing hotel, but it turned out to be far less than we expected. Admittedly, we didn't read the reviews but the photos looked much better than what the hotel actually looks like and added to the fact that it has a 4* rating, we thought we would get a good deal. 4 stars does not mean anything to me anymore after this experience, so please read the reviews before buying a holiday otherwise you will risk disappointment. This hotel would actually be acceptable for a price much lower than what we paid but not for almost £900 for 5 days. I am not sure if it's even worth half this sum. I feel like we didn't get value for money at all.

Just returned from 10 day fully inclusive at the Calella Palace with my family and what a time....the hotel is not a 4star but a 3 at most, the staff need some tlc, the bedrooms are ok however the walls are very thin and you can hear everything in the next room, above and below, if you fart...they will hear it and vice- versa. Don't expect a good night sleep.. So take ear plugs. We asked for "quieter rooms"- they put us on the 6th floor facing the back of the hotel which did the job...also good view of the town...As per the other reviews you have to pay for internet, you get 15mins free every other day, my advise is to go Burger King or McDolands down the road and they have wifi. You have to pay for the use of the safe in the room at 5 euros/day...not expecting that! The food was fab, different varieties, plenty of pork, chicken salads and desserts...however if you are a veggi then issues. Most of the "vegetarian" dishes include fish. Drinks were good too always in plastic glasses to avoid breakages. The question is would we go there again....NO...but to a different hotel as Calella is a beautiful town and lots to see and do. The beach is fab-plenty of room.

Had booked a family room with twin beds for 3 adults and 1 child however on arrival was put in small cramped room with two double beds. When I politely asked to be moved I was told the hotel was over booked and no other room was available until Sunday. Hotel is clean and pleasant so decided to put up with till Sunday when I was told I would have to pay extra to upgrade room . When I agreed to this I was then told it was not possible as head office would not allow it ? Staff at reception were on the whole difficult and seemed stressed. Staff at bar far more agreeable and cleaning and restaurant staff very friendly and pleasant. This is a good family hotel children love it and offers good value but reception staff need help
