Kurumba Maldives

Overview

Close your eyes and picture your perfect island resort... it'll probably look something like Kurumba Maldives. This place was the first ever resort to be built in the Maldives, back in the 70s when we were all listening to disco and wearing bell bottom jeans. But it's changed a lot since then (obvs) to become the five-star, family-friendly, island paradise it is now. And whilst this whole place is pretty epic, our favourite thing about Kurumba is that it's got six (six!) restaurants serving all sorts of deliciousness - foodies, this one's for you.

Location

• On it's own little island, surrounded by sandy beaches (so it gets a huge tick from us)

• Just a 10-minute speedboat transfer (yep) from Male international Airport

Rooms

• Choose from Superior Rooms, Deluxe Bungalows (some right on the beachfront!), Beach Villas, Garden Villas with Pools, Deluxe Pool Villas or Family Villas which are set over two floors

• For larger groups, the Two Bedroom Kurumba Residence can fit up to 8 people and the terrace leads right onto the beach

Food & Drink

• Vihamanaa - stop by the main buffet restaurant for daily delicious dishes and a laid-back atmosphere

• Thila - fresh seafood and grills, with tables on the beach and the overwater terrace

• Khing Thai - tasty Thai dishes and noodle stir fries in a casual space

• Hamakaze - Teppanyaki restaurant located on a terrace over the sea, where the chef cooks right in front of you! The sushi here is out of this world

• Al Qasr - their Middle Eastern restaurant, serving juicy kebabs, mezze platters and Moroccan delicacies

• Mahal - you'll find excellent veggie dishes, colourful tandooris and incredible curries at this authentic Indian restaurant

• Café - head here for a mid-afternoon snack, a pizza or to try some Maldivian specialities

• Kandu - the cocktail bar with evening entertainment by the sea

• Fez - shisha lounge serving colourful drinks

• Athiri - the place to catch the sunset, barefoot with the sand between your toes. It'll be hard to forget this little beach shack!

Transfers to the Maldives hotels are from Male International Airport via either domestic aircraft, seaplane, or speedboat. Luggage allowance varies depending on transfer type:

• Domestic aircraft (20kg hold luggage and 5kg hand luggage)

• Seaplane (20kg hold luggage and 5kg hand luggage)

• Speedboat (No luggage restrictions)

Immediately upon arrival at the airport, you will be met by either airport or hotel staff, who will escort you to your transfer departure point, and will be on hand to answer any questions you may have regarding transfers and timings. Please note that other flight arrivals or sudden changes in weather might mean you need to wait up to 3 hours before boarding the transfer.

If you’re travelling via seaplane, flights can only operate between 09:00 and 15:00. If you land in Male after 15:00, or if there are any sudden weather changes, you’ll need to stay overnight in an airport hotel. Don’t worry – if this is the case then we’ll be in touch to make the arrangements. It’s also worth noting that, like most holiday transfers, seaplanes will stop at multiple resorts on the way.
