Rooms.....Rooms were clean, very large, with kitchen facilities (fridge freezer, 2 hobs, sink, plates, cutlery, corkscrew, glasses, microwave), a breakfast bar with 4 stools, lounge area (that can also double as 2 single beds) and a twin bedroom. Lots of storage in the room. Every room (that we saw) had a very large veranda out the front, with table chairs and a clothes drier and a small patio out the back. There are 3 areas to the complex, A,B and C. We stayed in A block, which seemed to be the quietest of the areas. Each area had a pool. Pool in A block was quieter, had a self serve cold drinks machine( soft drinks only...had to walk to A or C for alcoholic). B block had a staffed pool bar and was below the main restaurant. This pool seemed a bit busier / noisier. Finally there was C block at the top of the hill. This area had lovely views, but was a lot busier and noisier, the pool here is the one with the slides, splash area, pool and snacks bar and where all of the entertainment took place. We avoided this area, as we were not travelling with children. Rooms did not have air conditioning and could get very warm. Fans were available to hire from reception, as were kettles , safety deposit box in room and use of TV . Maid cleaned room every other day, made beds, fresh towels, emptied bin and swept floor. If arriving early/ departing late, there is a luggage room and shower room. The complex on the whole was very clean and tidy. We saw staff cleaning the pool and pool area daily. The complex is on a hill, so not ideal for those with mobility problems. There is free wifi, ask at reception for your code....we were not informed of this when we checked in, but other families told us about this on our second day. The signal was not a,ways great....best signal in reception area but we were often able to get signal in our apartments also. Entertainment - we did not use the day time entertainment at C block at all, so cannot comment on the quality of this. I believe there were things such as water aerobics going on during the day. In the evening, there was usually a mini disco for the children, then a short piece of entertainment following this, including dancers, a parrot show, karaoke etc. quality of these were not great and entertainment always finished very early (by 10.30pm) in comparison to other places we have been on holiday and the all inclusive drinks finished at 11pm. Better advertisement of the day time activities would be a good idea, as these were only advertised on a board in the pool bar at C block....so anyone staying in A or B or around A/B pools, wouldn't know what the daily programme was......We liked that you could only get 2 alcoholic drinks at a time at the bars...this reduced the queue time and you were always given drinks (spirits) as strong as you liked ...I can however see that this might be frustrating for larger groups / families, who cannot go to the bar and get a "round" in for the whole group. In the evening , the 2 bars at C block were open. The pool bar at block B closed at 6pm Swimming pools are all open 10-6 . Getting a sun bed could be difficult, as some people put their towels out the night before ....on a couple of occasions we saw people putting towels on sun beds at midnight !! This is something that the hotel could look into, with stricter rules about reserving sun beds, as some families reserved many sun beds, and then only used them for an hour or so during the day. All swimming pools had lifeguards. Some shaded areas around all of the pools. Very windy on the island, so difficulties for people trying to use parasols, as u less they were big/ strong ones, some would blow inside out. The temperature was very hot...the sun care advisor who comes around the pools said that it was around 38 degrees...however due to the wind,t does not feel as hot. The restaurant had a brilliant variety of food. Breakfast included...cereals, toast, breads, pastries and cakes, fresh fruit, freshly cooked pancakes, freshly cooked omelettes made to order, cold meats and cheeses, sausages, bacon, cooked tomatoes, beans, fried and scrambled eggs. Dinner time had .....salad bar, pasta bar, breads, freshly stone cooked pizza, one meat and one fish cooked on hot plate in front of you, usually 2 other meat dishes, choice of vegetables, rice, potatoes and kids food (chips, nuggets etc) .we always found something nice to eat. The restaurant did get very busy at times, but we never had problem finding a table. It. Any have been difficult for larger groups/ families however to get seated altogether. The staff in the restaurant worked tirelessly to maintain a tidy restaurant, constantly cleaning the serving areas, taking finished plates etc from table. All with a smile and very friendly. First couple of days was quite warm in the restaurant , then they seemed to get air conditioning fixed ? Or became cooler. There could be long queues sometimes waiting for the freshly cooked pizza as this was very popular. You could get drinks from machine, including all the usual soft drinks, juices, water, beer, wine and hot drinks. There was also a Chinese restaurant that you could book to go to one night during your stay. We did go to this, out of curiosity. It was a little strange ! It is located in C block, downstairs under the pool bar. It was a buffet also, with a limited choice of Chinese food.....rice, noodles, duck, rubs, prawn crackers, sushi and a couple of other things. As in the main buffet, you seated yourself and helped yourselves to drinks from the machine, cutlery etc. this restaurant was extremely quiet, I believe only us and 6 other families were using it....lots and lots of empty tables. Seems a real shame, as the main buffet restaurant is very busy, and this one empty....maybe the hotel could re look at using the Chinese restaurant as another buffet restaurant choice instead, instead of a restaurant you can only go to once, with very limited food choices. Same puddings as in main restaurant, but smaller variety. Location.... Caleta dorado is situated about 5-10 minutes walk into the main town, where you will find lots of shops, restaurants, bars and a couple of minutes further down is the beach and the marina. Lovely promenade all along the coastline. About a 20 minute walk away is a shopping mall, with some nice shops and restaurants....and next to this a Mc Donald's. Taxis are very cheap, only a few euros, but the walk was very nice.there is a local market on twice a week, near to the hotel complex. We enjoyed looking round this market. Might be a nice idea if the hotel were able to offer families a shuttle service down to the beach. Overall, families who we spoke to had very mixed opinions of this resort, some loved it, some hated it. We found the apartments to be big and clean, basic, but good value for money. We always found something at the buffet which we liked to eat and the complex was close to the town and amenities. The entertainment in the evenings was not great, but we went into the town a lot of the time, to wander around the local shops and the evening stalls and around the marina we would probably come to the resort again, but perhaps try a different hotel. Would recommend to anyone looking for a cheap and cheerful break, who are not fussy about food and do not expect 5 star facilities and food in a 2/3 star complex.

This is our second visit here - first visit was with our children and this visit without. No delays and jumped straight into a taxi from airport for 12e and 10 minute journey Reception Staff very informative and respond to email requests for specific rooms/blocks prior to check in - speedy check in and directed to rooms no problem. Reception is only place you can access wifi unless out in the bars etc - If you ask reception for wifi code they will issue you with the login and code which is changed on a daily basis Rooms There are different blocks A, B, C etc. First time we stayed we were in C block which is near the entertainment and lively pool. This time we requested to stay in A block which has a quieter pool and self service bar for soft drinks and water. This block I think has the better accommodation - standard Spanish rooms with beds (not the comfiest) and furnishings, living area with sofa which pulls out to bed, TV (pay for by card in reception) self catering facilities (sink, pots, glasses and fridge) bathroom with bath and shower over, toilet and vanity sink. We heard many complaints of cockroaches and bugs in rooms - we found to keep doors and windows closed in the evening and overnight helped - we had one bug in the night and realised there was a gap under the back door so put a towel down and never saw anymore. Use of relevant bug killers is advisable for mosquitoes. Pools There are 3 pools to choose from one in C block with 3 slides and daytime activities, bar and snacks the second in A block is a quieter pool and one in B block is a little livelier but also has a full operating bar area. All areas clean and staff friendly (treat them as you wish to be treated) The bar areas can be busy and ques will form but soon pass and you can always go back up as many times as you please to refill! Bars The three bars available are adequately stocked with a variety of drinks Local beer Tropical, all spirits, liquors inc baileys, wine on tap, slushes, soft drinks and ice creams (ice lollies payable) Restaurant This can be crowded and struggle for places to sit - but depends what time you go in - we found by going as soon as opens had no problems and tend to beat the rush. Plus plenty fresh food to choose from - if you cannot find something to eat there is a serious problem - food may taste bland but there is plenty seasoning on the tables to add - also at full capacity this hotel caters for 1400 pax at diff nationalities so it would be hard to get it 100% for everyone. We found breakfast good variety omelettes to order, bacon, sausage, fried egg, scrambled egg, beans, croissants, toast, cereals, cakes?, fruit juices, coffee tea, water, fresh fruit Lunch menu Different variety, fresh pizza,, childrens menu, chips, spag bol, chicken nuggets, variety of sweets, fruit, breads, rice, potatoes and veg meat option and fish option, soup, fresh salads and dips Evening menu Variety similar to lunch time different meats, vegetarian option, sweets fruit, breads, soup, children's menu, pizza, fresh salads and dips Entertainment Various activities starting at 10am games and pool activities taking place in Block C Of an evening started with mini disco and children's games followed by shows including parrots, karaoke, saxophone player, dancers typical all inclusive entertainment for families. There is plenty of local bars and the town to venture to if this is not your cup of tea. My opinion is go with an open mind a holiday is what you make it and if you want the Ritz pay for the Ritz! We could have gone anywhere as had no children but we choose to return to the Dorada as found it value for money. You will loose your wrist band on the last day at 12.00 when you check out - but if you are there for lunch and tea you can get a food voucher from reception and use that for the restaurant in order to get drinks and food. If you loose your wristband there is a charge of 30e for a replacement - if the wristband breaks or drops off! Ask at reception and present the broken one and they will replace it. The Dorada are doing some renovations at the moment - parasols around the pool, lick of paint in places tidying the gardens etc. There is no Air Con but it wasnt advertised with any - you can hire fans from reception at 15e and 25e deposit but to be honest if you walk down the town to the China Shop he sells them new for 23e and you can sell on as we did. You can book trips in reception or walk down the town to Lastminute travel and they are happy to help and very informative. We ate out a few times at the back of the hotel there is various bars at reasonable prices for food and drink. Can highly recommend the Windmill just through the tunnel on the way to town its buy one get one free on pints and roast dinners are amazing - second place which is no1 by far is Fado Steak House yes you que to get in but so worth it - 2 courses and 2 lots of drinks 43e and rated 5* on trip advisor! All in all the Dorada is a good 3* complex with plenty going on to keep you entertained or not if you wish for a quiet stay. The beach is nearby and 15 minute walk - Mcdonalds also nearby across from the commercial centre where there are a small selection of shops. Go and enjoy and remember your suncream as you will burn as very windy but temp reach mid 40s most days - There is a suncare advisor also visits once a day for all your suncare needs.

It was decent enough, the food was okay. The staff were kinda helpful. The pools could have been open a bit earlier and open a bit later. We were located in the incoming flight path, (that starts at 7.30 am) and our bungalow was too close to the entertainment area. What was loud and ended in the late hours. I am not saying we didn't have a good time. But if we came back to this island we would be staying in a different part of the island.

we recently returned from a two week break in caleta dorada it wasnt a five star hotel but doesnt charge or advertise as one, my wife and i have read the reviews before and after the holiday one person complained even after a free villa upgrade. The facts are the rooms are clean as is the pool the staff are hard working and polite the food is good and varied, the total cost of my holiday for a family of four was only 2k for 2 weeks i doubt i could have had 2 weeks in skegness for the same price and it was all inclusive. To all the moaners what did you expect. We did have to put towels out at 7am but i always have done wherever we have been including 5 star hotels.the only negatives our family found were sunbeds need replacing and the major one was no aircon if this is rectified i would go back every year.if your thinking of going to this hotel and you are reasonable people you will love it ignore the haters
