Where the Costa Brava officially begins, Blanes is the chilled-out charmer that's been a favourite with Catalan families for generations. Four kilometres of beaches, one of Europe's best botanical gardens perched on a cliff, and a fireworks competition so legendary it pulls in 150,000 spectators a night. Less hectic than neighbouring Lloret but still brilliantly connected – you've got the best of both worlds here.
