Positano Holidays

Positano

Holidays

Known to many as the Pearl of the Amalfi Coast, Positano is a well kept secret, situated to the south of Italy's Mediterranean Coast. With the whole town built on the mountainside, Positano is renowned, along with other resorts along this particular stretch of coastline, for its celebrity-attracting, chic and trendy status, evident in the expensive boutiques and top quality hotels situated throughout the town. So if you fancy a week or two of luxury sampling the finest culture and food on Italy holidays, then book today with On The Beach!

Weather

Positano is blessed with an idyllic Mediterranean climate, with the winters mild and the summers pleasantly hot, the sea breeze preventing too-hot-to-bear conditions. This allows the holiday months to stretch between May all the way to early October, although July and August are still the warmest and hence the most sought after for holiday makers. For the cheapest deals or quick last minute getaways it is advised to book outside of these peak months when the area's tourist industry is a little more tranquil.

Things To Do on Holidays

Positano is filled with things to do to keep everyone entertained all holiday long! The narrow, winding streets on the mountain side are home to many high fashion shops and boutiques, and an abundance of fine restaurants are perfect for sampling local cuisine and classic Italian favourites. For a more cultural day out, Positano offers the church of Santa Maria Assunta, featuring an Italian Renaissance built dome and a Byzantine icon of a black Madonna.

Things to do: Culture

Positano began its life as a sleepy fishing village and it wasn't until the advent of trading and the more readily available systems of transportation that the town flourished, trading across the Mediterranean in a wide range of goods, especially with the East. However, as the power of neighbouring towns and cities grew, the need to trade from Positano faded, and the town slipped into a mini depression. Many of the inhabitants emigrated, often across the Atlantic to America.

However, Positano's popularity and potential as a tourist destination was eventually realised, and its tourist industry saw a massive growth in the 1950s. Today Positano is famous for attracting the rich and the famous on holidays to Italy, but with On The Beach we bring you all this at the cheapest prices possible!

Positano also plays host to a number of festivals, with jazz and classical music festivals, fashion shows as well as extravagant Christmas and New Year bashes playing a main role in the town's culture.

Landscape

The Mediterranean coastline also offers breathtaking seascape, with caves to explore and private little coves to discover. Positano is also home to the famous ballet, with many famous composers such as Stravinsky spending time there.
