The Greek Portofino. Pastel-painted Venetian houses round a yacht-strewn harbour, candlelit dinners on the waterside, and a slow, sophisticated rhythm that pulls in an international crowd looking for the most polished corner of Kefalonia. Easiest as a day trip from Sami or Agia Efimia up the east coast.

Why do people love going on day trips to Fiskardo?

  • The 1953 Survivor - It's the only village on Kefalonia that escaped the earthquake intact, so the pastel Venetian architecture and narrow lanes are the genuine article rather than a rebuild.

  • Yacht-Set Vibes - The prettiest harbour in the Ionian, ringed by restaurant terraces and lined with the kind of boats that turn up with helicopters on the back deck.

  • Crystal-Clear Coves - Emblisi, Foki and Kimilia are some of the most swimmable spots in northern Kefalonia, all bath-warm water and pine-shaded pebbles.

  • Standout Dining - A tiny harbour-front dining scene that punches well above its size, with fresh-off-the-boat seafood and the kind of polished Greek cooking that draws diners across the island.

Where to stay near Fiskardo

Fiskardo itself is a tiny village without much in the way of bookable accommodation, so we suggest you base yourself at one of Kefalonia's larger resorts and head up to Fiskardo for the day.

  • Argostoli - The island capital and the strongest base on Kefalonia, with the best food scene, a buzzing harbour and proper urban energy. Around an hour and a quarter from Fiskardo by car, a reasonable haul for one day out and you're getting city-break vibes the rest of the week.

  • Sami - The strongest east-coast all-rounder, around 45 minutes south of Fiskardo. Sandier beachfront than the village, Melissani Cave on the doorstep and good ferry connections, properly well placed for exploring north and south.

  • Lassi - Kefalonia's main beach resort, with the busiest strip of bars and restaurants on the island and easy airport access. Around 90 minutes from Fiskardo, the pick if your priority is a proper sandy-beach holiday with the day trip as one highlight in a fuller week.

  • Agia Efimia - The closest base at around 30 minutes south, a quiet working harbour town with a low-key local feel. Thinner on resort facilities than the others but the easy choice if you want to keep the drive short and fancy a more low-key holiday.
