Prague 2 covers Vinohrady and part of New Town (Nove Mesto), the neighbourhood that sits just southeast of the Old Town. Vinohrady is where Prague's young professionals live, and it shows: tree-lined streets, independent coffee shops, excellent restaurants that haven't made it into the guidebooks yet, and a quieter pace than the tourist centre five minutes away on the metro.
Wenceslas Square (the top end of it) is technically in Prague 2, so some hotels here are as central as anything in Prague 1 but often at a slightly lower price point. The residential streets behind the square are calm at night, well-connected by tram and metro, and full of the kind of neighbourhood bars where a half-litre of Pilsner is still €2.
Good for couples who want a local feel without losing walkable access to the centre, and for anyone who'd rather eat where the Czechs eat than where the tourists do.
