If you want the real Majorca - not the beach resort version - Llucmajor is your spot. This authentic inland town is where Mallorcans actually live, surrounded by almond groves, olive trees and countryside that hasn't changed in centuries. It's the island's largest municipality by area, home to two cracking golf courses, Bronze Age ruins and proper Sunday markets where you'll hear more Mallorquín than English. Es Trenc beach is just 20 minutes away, Palma's 25 minutes in the other direction, and your rural retreat awaits between them. This is golf, culture and slow-living Majorca at its finest.

📸 Must See, Must Do in Llucmajor
There are some great beaches around Llucmajor, but none within walking distance, so we reckon your beach trips here are just gonna be part of a bigger buffet of fun. So here's some other options for you to consider.
⛳ Son Antem Golf Resort. Two 18-hole courses and one of Europe's largest golf academies, both open year-round. The East is more forgiving for a relaxed round, the West is proper championship standard with Puig de Randa views throughout. Green fees from around £20 to £35 depending on course and season.
🏺 Capocorb Vell Talayotic settlement. A 3,000-year-old Bronze Age village south of Llucmajor toward Cala Pi, with five stone talayots (towers) and surrounding village structures declared a Historic-Artistic Monument in 1931. Properly atmospheric, £3 entry, closed Thursdays.
🏖️ Es Trenc beach. A 20-minute drive south gets you to this undeveloped 2km stretch of white sand and turquoise water backed by dunes. No high-rise hotels, no over-development, just one of the most beautiful beaches in the Mediterranean. Arrive early in peak summer for easier parking.
🏔️ Sanctuary of Randa on Puig de Randa. A 13th-century monastery set on a 540m peak with what are fairly confidently the best panoramic views on the island. Short drive from Llucmajor, and you can visit the Santuari de Cura at the summit plus smaller hermitages along the road up.
⚔️ Monument to Jaume III. Marks the site of the 1349 Battle of Llucmajor, where King Pedro IV of Aragon defeated and killed King Jaume III and ended Majorca's brief run as an independent kingdom. Found at the end of Passeig Jaume III, proper local history worth knowing.
🌊 Cala Pi. A slender cove 12km south of town tucked between white limestone cliffs, with a tiny sandy beach at the end that fills up in peak summer but is genuinely beautiful out of season. Stairs down to the sand, no big facilities, bring a picnic.
🍷 Local bodega wine tasting. Vi Rei and Bordoy are two of the nearby wineries offering tours through vineyards that date back to Roman times, with tastings of the local Manto Negro and Callet reds plus a few whites. Book ahead in peak season.
🛒 Llucmajor Sunday market. Kicks off around 9am in the town centre and runs through the morning. Fresh produce, local cheeses, sobrassada, leather goods (Llucmajor's shoemaking heritage runs deep) and ceramics. One of the biggest and best weekly markets on the island.
🛏️ Where to Stay
Families
Families wanting proper golf access plus kid-friendly facilities should look at Be Live Collection Son Antem, which pairs the two Son Antem courses with indoor and outdoor pools, a dedicated kids' area and a free shuttle to Playa de Palma when you want a beach day. For the all-inclusive-and-family-entertainment angle with the countryside still on the doorstep, Globales Maioris is the value pick with a shuttle to the sandy coast. Both handle the "we want rural Majorca but also a proper resort setup" brief.
Couples
Couples wanting the serious luxury version of rural Majorca book Zoetry Mallorca, which handles the 5-star spa, Michelin dining and pool-terrace side of things with real style. For something smaller and more intimate, Son Sama is the boutique hilltop finca with Tramuntana views and private terraces, and Finca Son Guardiola is the traditional country-house option with its own grounds and in-house Majorcan dining. All three put Palma City within a 25-minute drive for evenings out.
Groups
Extended families, golf groups and multi-generational trips do brilliantly at Marriott's Club Son Antem, which has two- and three-bedroom townhouses sleeping up to eight, with kitchenettes, private patios and direct access to both golf courses. It's the single best setup on the page for any group that wants space, privacy and shared living areas.
🗣️ Local Lingo
Majorca is bilingual: Catalan (specifically Mallorquí, the local dialect) is the everyday language of islanders, Spanish is universal on menus and signs, and English is spoken at every hotel and tourist-facing spot. The inland villages like Llucmajor lean more strongly Mallorquí than the coastal resorts, so a quick attempt at either language goes a long way. A few to get you started:
Bon dia, Good morning (Catalan, the everyday local greeting)
Gràcies (Catalan) / Gracias (Spanish), Thank you
Un cafè amb llet, si us plau, A coffee with milk, please (Catalan, the breakfast classic)
Un menú del dia, per favor, The set-lunch menu, please (the three-course midday meal that locals actually eat)
Sabaters, Shoemakers, the trade that made Llucmajor famous for centuries and gave the town its Plaza del Zapatero (Cobbler's Square) with a statue honouring the craft

Peak summer (July and August) is Llucmajor at its warmest, with the golf courses in full swing, Es Trenc at its most beautiful, and the rural fincas running their full programmes. June and September are quieter alternatives for date-flexible travellers, still hitting 25 to 28°C with comfortable golf-playing weather. May and October bring cooler 20 to 24°C weather that's brilliant for walking the Camí de Randa and doing longer days on the heritage sites, and October adds Las Fires de Llucmajor to the mix. Winter is genuinely viable here given the airport proximity and the golf-course reliability, with most rural hotels open year-round.
