Spending a night at Amir Place my wife and I, leaves us with mixed feelings. The staff were kind and helpful and our room had a nice sea view. Sheets and bathroom was clean. We tried the indoor first, which was a nice small pool, but a little hot water. Then we went to the beach, which was very clean and fantastic to swim in. There are two drawbacks in this hotel : 1- This hotel suffered from a serious problem in their air conditioner. At that time of summer it was very hot, the room was just ok not cold enough, other parts of the hotel specially the restaurant wasn't cold enough. 2- the food was the biggest disappointment. Not much choice and the quality was just standard not a 4 stars hotel kitchen. Thumbs up for the mixed grilled which was the only thing that can be eaten. As a final word, you can't go wrong with this hotel if you are on budget and you are looking to relax and enjoy summer and swimming

Stayed at the Amir Palace for my 40th Birthday with my husband, his nephew and wife who were on their honeymoon. Firstly, the hotel staff were GREAT! Especially the Head Chef Kais who was wonderful and he even let me cook on my Birthday in the kitchen (a curry) and we ate the meal in the a la carte restaurant onsite which is FREE for one night for each guest who are staying, This isn't mentioned and not many of the guest know this but I asked! Glad they had a microwave as this helps to heat up food to your standard. Food was better than expected. Reception/front of house staff were also good, as well as the waiting staff who have a dry sense of humour which I liked but some may find a little rude. I think it’s in the tone rather than bad manners but nevertheless we had a good laugh with the waiter Sober and Manir! Pleasantness put aside here what you need to what out for...Lady called Noor (who is supposedly the rep). She will con you out of money. When booking excursions as for the money to be explained to you i.e. paying in pounds or dinars per person. She will trick you and you’ll end up handing over pounds rather then pence. She will try to get you to book excursions per person which to be honest isn't worth it i.e. 89dinars per person for a trip to the old market, leaving at 7am and arriving back at 1pm. Basically you are spending 4 hours on the coach and only 1.5 hours onsite. We booked the same excursion with a great taxi driver called Ataf which we found outside the hotel and agreed a price for 4 people 100 dinars. We arrived 1 hour at the old market and spent time looking around at our own leisure, we made toilet stops several times too and ate food we wanted to eat instead of being told. It was great as we had an 8 seater hi top car, and was able to sit comfortably and even sleep. Nothing was too much trouble for this driver, and he told and showed us places that weren’t on original excursion, now that was value for money. Noor is a very highly strong lady and she’ll make out what she is saying is gospel but I would book with her away from groups as she will confuse you and this is where things go bad. Also ask if the rep is available as non of them wear uniforms letting you know. Quad Biking this was booked through Noor at the hotel, but when we saw the quad bikes the tyres had severe wear & tear on them, if you are unsure DO NOT GO ON THEM! The back brakes on my quad bike didn't feel right and I kept crashing into my niece in front. I then later had a feeling I would be heading for an accident, and low and behold I came off swerving to the left and the quad landed on top of me with petrol leaking out. I had a lucky escape as I only walked away with cuts and bruises. Try and keep your wits about you.

I was very nervous about traveling to Tunisia but only as I was on my own. The recent terrorist attacks did not scare me into cancelling or transferring. Once people noticed I was on my own I was included into their circles. Greeted at reception by a very pleasant man who arranged for me to have a cocktail before being shown my room. Have to admit I wasn't happy with the room. Lots of noise from the gravel track outside. It was used by locals to get to the beach. There was lots of revving up motor cycles and shouting. Then when I used the shower the curtain rail fell down hitting me on the head. Had to laugh as exact thing happened last year at a neighbouring hotel. I was then moved to a much nicer and quieter room. The dining room workers were all very friendly and helpful. It was my birthday during my stay and my table was decorated nicely and after my dinner the waiters came to my table with a scrummy cake and singing Happy Birthday. It was a lovely gesture and I really appreciated it. There was a vast choice of various foods at mealtimes. I'm vegetarian and a couple of times there was only veg and salad available but there was an option to have a pasta dish freshly made. I never had any complaints or moans regards the food it was all delicious. There was entertainment in the evenings which was usually great fun. On my birthday I played bingo with newly made friends and I won the first two prizes and my friend won the third! All of the animation staff, bar staff, the 'towel guy' and beach staff were just so nice and obliging. The beach is stunning and all who used it felt totally safe. There were security and police presence but very discreetly placed. The only negative regards my holiday was getting the news via Foreign Office that all Brits had to leave by the 12th as they were not sending anymore flights after that date. There were complaints by all the British holidaymakers. Not one Brit wanted to leave early and not one Brit had felt unsafe since arriving. I lost 3 nights of my holiday due to what we viewed a totally unnessessary move by the UK government. I am most definitely going to return to this lovely hotel as soon as I am able to. I would recommend the Amir Palace to anyone wishing to holiday in Tunisia.
