A very disappointing stay at this hotel. Teletext holidays rated it 5 star, the local tourist board has it 4 star. I would hesitate to give it 2 stars. The whole place needs a good tidy up and a lick of paint. In our room, the door would not close without slamming it very hard. The lamps did not work, and the safe did not work. One member of staff offered us transfer to a sea view room but was shouted down by his colleague who insisted we could not be moved. It took 48 hours to get maintenance for all the above, after which we were inundated with visits to fix them all again The dining room was 'decorated' with swirls of rags, placed indiscriminately on floors and walls. The food was the same every lunchtime and evening, though plentiful. It was largely bland and uninteresting. Our waiter made a great deal of telling us how his service is excellent and how wonderful the table was that he had chosen for us. From day one we knew he was angling for a tip a the end of the week The swimming pool was closed which was another disappointment. When we questioned this we were told 'well, you can swim in the sea' (which was freezing). The website also fails to mention the stunning view of the oilrig directly offshore from the beach! The beach was constantly being bulldozed while we were there,. This did not make for a restful time. The animation team was the least animated I have ever known. The evening entertainment was woeful, frequently missed altogether or started much later than advertised. We booked an all inclusive stay but were perplexed that we had to sign a bill every time we ordered a drink. Especially perplexed when one bill showed that we had ordered 8 times more than we actually had! We received a bill to sign for 2 vodkas, 2 gins and 4 glasses of wine (a receipt for nil, of course, but we were convinced the waiter must be stashing some alcohol for himself but putting it in our names) At the weekend, a large group of locals checked in. No problem with that at all, except that the queues in the dining room resembled a rugby scrum. I have never seen such gluttony displayed, nor such wastefulness. Tourists' needs were largely ignored at this time The weather was not too good on our arrival so we asked at reception if they could recommend something outside for us to do or see. We were told that there is 'nothing outside' and then we were 'ambushed' by a guy called Freddie who ran the lobby shop. He told us we could get a free mini-bus into Sousse and explore the souq. A little while later he told us that we had just missed the mini-bus but he took us in his hotel transport for free. Yes we had missed the mini-bus but this was because he had told us the wrong time for it. We went with him and asked that we be left alone to explore. He insisted on escorting us, despite our protestations. Not surprisingly, he escorted us to his friend's shop where we were lectured on the art of carpet making, despite insisting that we did not want to be there. He and his friend seemed to take offence because we did not want to spend hundreds of pounds in the shop. Overall, it was a vey disappointing experience, and this hotel should in no way be advertised as 4 or 5 star. It needs seriously upgrading in all aspects We got it as a bargain holiday so no complaints about the cost really but BEWARE OF FREDDIE!!

We booked a family holiday for two weeks to Amir Palace , we had high expectations but sadly the Internet provided false information! On arrival we were asked by a very cheeky member of staff for £20 because 'he had given us a good room' the room was that 'good' that the toilet didn't flush & we waited all day & all night for a plumber to fix the issue! The bar is just a hall with tables & chairs , you have no idea what they are putting in your drinks! On a few occasions we were given glasses of coke with no alcohol! & on another occasion we asked for Bacardi & coke & we were actually given a glass of coke with some green stuff in it, which we still have no idea what it was! After being given this drink, a member of my family became very ill, & projectile vomited for around 2 hours solid ! The bar staff are absolutely lovely , especially fowzey! They definitely made our holiday! The food is absolutely disgusting! Same stuff every day & if you don't like eggs or fish, you will be really struggling to find something to eat ! The 'cafe' which is supposed to be opened between dining room closures wasn't open for the whole 2 weeks we were there! The entertainment was poor. Same things from week to week & wasn't very enjoyable however billy, Ramos & Nina were very nice & could always have a laugh with them! The out door pool had no water in it at for the duration of our stay, this was very disappointing as it wasn't mentioned before we arrived & the weather was very hot !! Just because it was cold for them doesn't mean it's cold for us with the temperature reaching over 30! We kept being told by staff that it would be fixed within a couple of days but of course, a couple of days never came!! We were also greeted by a man named Ali baba, he spoke to us about different activities which we did book, however he is only out to rip you off ! We booked both trips through him, the boat trip which is a total waste of time & money, very boring! & the quad biking - we were robbed for both trips & found this out by speaking to other holiday makers on the trips , who enlightened us to the fact that they had paid half the price that they did ! I do not recommend anyone to book anything through anyone other than the rep! The shops in the hotel are very over priced compared to the shops outside , almost double the price so be very aware as we were also stung with this too but luckily I have a mouth on me & that soon got sorted ! You are supposed to be safe in a complex with security everywhere, right? Well not at amir palace ! There are many local people who are allowed to enter & make use of the 'disco downstairs' some of these people who are entering the resort are dangerous & it is very easy to spot! On one occasion these men tried to lure us into the disco but luckily we didn't go. A couple of nights later we watched the same men doing the same thing to a poor girl who was on holiday on her own, luckily we warned her! Most of the things advertised are actually chargeable like the jacuzzi & steam room etc, however the Internet fails to tell you this. It also advertises 4 bars & a disco, again all are chargeable except the one bar that doesn't allow you to see what you are actually getting! All in all I would never recommend this hotel to anyone! The bar staff, the entertainment team, the fact there was 8 of us & a pack of cards made our holiday!!! Very disappointed & will never go back!
