Perhaps We've been spoilt with previous hotels but our initial reaction to Villa Marina Club was disappointing. The pools are adjacent to the street and it's on a fairly small plot. I expect it's a 70's ish built hotel and accept thing are difficult to update and space is at a premium. The reception staff were always friendly and helpful. Our room was small, which was fine, I believe they all are. However it wasn't as clean as I would expect with dust and bits in the runners of the wardrobe (the doors were a bit dodgy too) and all around the skirting and surfaces. The decor is not just tired but really badly finished with paint splashes and paint on the woodwork. Some lovely person had previously wiped makeup on the wall next to the sink and this hadn't been cleaned off, yuk!! The patio doors were also an accident waiting to happen. The beds were like army issue although comfy matresses but with plastic under sheets. I know we want to know the beds are clean and fresh but other hotels get around this problem. The sheets were also too small for the beds and when made up in the morning, the tops were just tidied and the under sheets left. I would rather make it myself the get in it like this. We did look out over a pool but some body else's, although it was probably the quieter side of the hotel. Generally the block was noisy and the sound of every loo being flushed from rooms above was not great. Some things are difficult to change but the poor decor and cleanliness are basics that could and should be addressed. I didn't mind paying a deposit for the safe key but why there was a further charge on top of 12 euros I felt a bit unfair. The pools are quite small and with limited space around them so the sunbeds' are lacking in number and space. People do play the early morning towel game, I decided to play too on a couple of mornings, I do understand the complaints so either the staff need to remove towels as stated or you just have to join in. Some people said they went out every day as there were no beds to use, which is shame when you pay for all-inclusive. The restaurant was pretty good on the whole, although a little cramped in places. It is almost exclusively a British hotel so there was a bit of a lack of anything new to try but I guess they've worked out over the years what people want and there was generally a good selection and mostly tasty. The staff work really hard to get everyone seated as quickly as possible and at keeping the place clean and tables laid. Generally people just made there way to what they wanted and moved on, on one occasion an attempt seemed to have ben made for people to queue which caused all sorts of delays. The beach bar laid on the usual burgers, sausages, chips etc which seemed to have a constant supply of takers from midday. The bar staff were all helpful. My issue with the bars were firstly an inability to fill a glass to the top, in an apparent attempt to be quick, but I just found if you only had 3/4 of a drink you went back sooner and more so, the use of the western worlds total supply of disposable plastic cups. I know the pay off for thick plastic glasses would be more washing but I for one would take the same cup up several times. Some people don't have the same ethics but once again the staff worked hard to clear rubbish throughout the day. The entertainment staff worked solidly throughout the days and nights and there was plenty more going on than we were even aware of. The evenings did get a little samey but obviously there is a constant turn over of holiday makers so perhaps that is the nature of the beast. The one thing that was a bit patchy was the kiddies half hour in the evening, I've seen it done a lot better and there is very little for teens. The shows and acts were pretty good though. Although it is predominantly British, and there were a few 'loud' families, we saw no bad behaviour and barely heard a swear word. Free wifi is only available in the lobby really which was fine for us but it struggled to cope. The walk into Salou is fairly easy and it doesn't take longer than 25 mins to the beach, and thats walking really slowly. 10 mins to the Station. Its a nice beach but we didn't really spend any time there. There is a free mini bus a few hours of the day too. We went to Port Aventura on a slightly cloudy Monday. It was a really good day to go, not too busy. Great roller coasters but some of the height restrictions on some of the really tame rides were disappointing for some kiddies and a bit unnecessary we felt. It is a family hotel and does it quite well. A week was enough for us and we won't be returning unfortunately. Fairly forgettable but it is what it is.

We have just returned from 11 nights here and had yet another lovely holiday - our 4th time here. The staff are lovely, friendly and obliging The children's entertainment team are fabulous and our kids just loved them and joined in regularly with the activities. The complex is small which is a godsend for us so we can easily keep an eye on our children and they can't wander off - we love it here and will continue to return as we love it and the kids definitely love it. Thank you villa marina x

Just returned from our second family holiday to the villamarina. We were a family of 15 aged from 70 - 5 and everyone had a fantastic time. We spent the few extra pennies this time and stayed in the ground floor rooms with terrace (i would definitely advice this) kids clubs were great, the lifeguards had them all swimming by day 3 and spend the remainder of time making sure they were all safe and teaching them how to dive, cannot praise these guys enough. Food was amazingly good, staff excellent, rooms are basic but have everything u need and are cleaned daily. For a cheap and cheerful holiday you won't get better than this place :)

I must admit that when we first pulled up outside the hotel I was a little disappointed. It isn't the prettiest building you'll ever see, and could probably do with a lick of paint and a better colour scheme. Also the rooms are on the small side for a family of four. And that's where the negative comments end becuase every thing else is near perfect. A special mention to Monica (the manager) and all of her team, and I mean all of her team. I don't think I've ever been in a hotel with such friendly, helpful staff. Absolutely nothing was a problem. Brilliant. The rooms are clean, and kept that way by excellent cleaning staff. Plenty of clean towels every day. Well done to the maids on an excellent job. The food is very good. Anyone who stays here and can't find something they like to eat must be an extremely fussy eater. There were 8 of us in our group and we were well fed every day. Plenty of variety and perfect service in an extremely busy restaurant. I would 100% recommend this hotel.
