Back to Estrela again just 3 of us this time. Welcome very friendly as I expected. Our 1 bedroom apartment at the back this time overlooking car park and Alto Golf next door. Very peaceful and private as no one across from our balcony. Everyone very friendly and helpful, signs of upgrading and refurbishment happening, did not cause any disruption or inconvenience to our stay. Good to see they are bringing apartments up to date as they have been looking a little sad and neglected still age happens what can I say. The jacuzzi and spa great and worth the €6 per person pretty relaxed about how long you can spend in there. Little supermarket round the corner from the bar very good prices very competitive she carries all you will need for a self catering holiday her English is getting better and she is very friendly oh yes get there 9.00am in the morning her freshly baked bread is still warm and delicious . The cafe over at the pool is great her food is freshly cooked can't ask for a better lunch or tea after a session in one of the pools. I enjoyed the plain burger with onions family preferred the chicken and pineapple salad, each to their own I say bring on the chips. She has now got dessert menu I had profiteroles, crepes, ice cream scrummy. The service throughout the hotel excellent.

Firstly I'll start this review off with I'm the sort of person who is extremely hard too please. I'm not afraid to moan and will certainly speak my mind when needed too. Firstly the hotel its self is basic, the rooms are huge we stayed at the hotel for 11 nights with 3 small children all under 3. I've seen a lot of moaners on here regarding the doors. The first night we arrived I thought we had the same issue until I figured out how the doors where supposed to actually lock together they where not broken just needed to be mechanically shut properly. The hotel itself is a distance away from Praia da rocha but it's a nice 15 minute walk along the road so unless you want to have the hustle and bustle of he beach front I'd look else where. The staff where fantastic, friendly and spoke excellent English. They helped organise trips out for us too zoo marine and the water water park without any issues. The swimming pools where great, we have come out of season and they where all in a good standard with plenty of choice all with different depths. Another review on here moaned regarding the gym, I'm a huge gym freak back at home and the gym is pretty good considering it's not a fully running gym. Yes it's small, yes it's basic but anybody who is anybody can get a decent work out from the machines available. Not seen one cockroach either, if this place was bad I'd write it. I have high standards like I've already wrote but the hotel is good not excellent just good. If you don't like to walk or pay for taxis pay the extra £300-£500 to stay in the centre of Praia da rocha.

This hotel should be shut down fumigated and refurbished, We arrived very tired after a long travel to a hotel that was very tired and in disrepair and in much need of attention. The room we were allocated had cockroaches and was very outdated with old dirty furniture. When we complained to reception they were not bothered, they sent a maid to remove the cockroaches whom found it very amusing and just through them out of the room into the corridor. We asked to speak to the manager who was not available till the monday and this was saturday. The shop was very overpriced and under-stocked, the pool area was disgusting with smeg and dirt in the pool, the fencing round the pool was only half existent the other half missing or lying on the ground, sun loungers needed replacing. the hotel grounds was in much need of a gardener/handyman. this hotel does not even meet a 1 star standed. needless to say we moved hotels I would not spend a single night at this hotel.
