This hotel should be shut down fumigated and refurbished, We arrived very tired after a long travel to a hotel that was very tired and in disrepair and in much need of attention. The room we were allocated had cockroaches and was very outdated with old dirty furniture. When we complained to reception they were not bothered, they sent a maid to remove the cockroaches whom found it very amusing and just through them out of the room into the corridor. We asked to speak to the manager who was not available till the monday and this was saturday. The shop was very overpriced and under-stocked, the pool area was disgusting with smeg and dirt in the pool, the fencing round the pool was only half existent the other half missing or lying on the ground, sun loungers needed replacing. the hotel grounds was in much need of a gardener/handyman. this hotel does not even meet a 1 star standed. needless to say we moved hotels I would not spend a single night at this hotel.

To give this hotel a 1* rating is being generous. We were booked into the Estrela do Vau for our 3 week holiday (18th April to 9th May). 2 families, 2 apartments, 7 customers. We booked 9 months in advance. VERY UNHAPPY with the condition and location of this hotel. Not what was described in the Jet2 brochure. The rooms had: Cockroaches (2-3" in size) were already inhabiting the apartments when we arrived. Staff came to "deal" with the problem, picked up the cockroaches, and threw them into the hallway. Ants were also in attendance in both apartments - not quite overrun. They thought this was highly amusing (laughing about it) and "no big deal". The oven hobs didn't work - one not at all, the other was barely lukewarm after being switched on for 5-10 minutes. The hob kettle was faulty. Air conditioning didn't work.Metal shavings next to the balcony door, which would have meant a trip to hospital if one of our group had stood on them. No lock on toilet door. Severely inadequate cooking/fridge facilities for a self catering apartment. No freezer - we were booked in for 3 weeks. Beds in the living area were not big enough for anyone over the height of 4ft. Patio furniture was broken, and would have caused injury if sat on. Furnishings were filthy and badly in need of a good scrub (seating covers etc), Wardrobe mirror (full size) was broken and there was glass on the floor. The wardrobe door couldn't be opened - very stiff - so couldn't be used. Pots and crockery all wanted washing before they were fit to use. Very limited stock of utensils for an SC apartment. General state of hotel: On arrival, the feature fountain wasn't working (broken in places and mouldy). The entrance on close inspection was in need of tidying up - weeding, trees and plants tending to (dying) - a basic maintenance tidy up. NO REP information in the hotel, and staff didn't know anything. Very much a "don't bother me, I can't be bothered attitude". Too busy chatting to friend on telephone. Gym - tiny, 2 pieces of equipment, Wellness centre, the same size. Free wifi - they advertise in the brochure - IF you can get a phone signal - it took us over 4 hours to have a phone conversation with the Jet2 rep, to be able to sort things and get moved. The shop on site was very expensive, paying well over the odds for basics like water and milk - compared to other areas. The pool - one word - DISGUSTING!! Nothing like in the brochure. The feature photo of the pool area on the online brochure, is nothing like what greets you on your arrival. It was obviously taken from the roof and enlarged. Now we all know that photo's are overexagerated, but this was virtually false advertising. It was VERY dirty and unkempt, with floaties and scum covering all three pools. The fencing surrounding the pools was broken and laying on the floor, and seemed to have been there quite a while. Beach was nowhere to be found. Ours were the only children there. We only spotted 6 other couples while there. Our requirements were: clean, family friendly, and fairly close to the beach. We weren't looking for flash, and we certainly didn't get it here. Clean was too much to ask. Because of disabilities, we did request ground floor apartments, next door to each other - this was the only thing they got right. Not one in our party of 7, would rate this hotel higher than 0. We paid over £2,200 for this, and then had to pay a further £705.26 + 48euros for transfer to something clean. Jet2 at this time, are denying the blame lies with them (their hotel). I will update on final outcome. If you want to enjoy your holiday, stay away from the Estrela do Vau.

Woman at reception Tuesday night was lovely we had a great welcome from her and she helped us every time we asked with a lovely smile.. One bedroom apartment was huge and immaculately clean with large veranda and all utensils you will ever need.. Woman at outside snack bar was lovely as well... Pool was clean but sun beds need an upgrade lots of old and damaged ones.. Lobby was nice and gardens were lovely... Praia da rocha beaches are the best in Europe... Perfect.. Drug dealers on the strip at praia da rocha were a pain again... something needs doing about these people I must have been asked 30 times.. You want smoke, weed or sniff.. Tres palmers is the best restaurant there 3 courses 9.90 euros which includes Aberdeen angus believe it or not.. Taxi to prai da rocha is 5.10 or a 20 minute walk
