The young at heart will enjoy nearby Paceville - this locality offers much to tourists looking for nightlife entertainment, including discos, bars, Casino , restaurants and other entertainment. Here there are dozens of closed and open air bars, cafes, restaurants, clubs as well as beautiful beach clubs, literally packing the streets with life and entertainment. During the day and early evenings, Paceville also houses a large shopping centre, as well as many upscale shops around the popular Portomaso and Hilton Development along Ross Street.

I stayed in this hotel back in 2009 and was amused to read the same kind of stories about the staff which I experienced. The hotel has an excellent location by the sea and the pool just between St.Julians and Sliema and within an easy walk to both of them. My room was located in the upper floor and had a tiny balcony facing to the sea, but it really wasn't much more than a French balcony. The room was spacious and ok, but very basic and a bit outdated. The staff then... well I've never experienced a hotel personnel that could be less interested in their guests. They never reacted in any request. For example, a woman who was staying in a room above was smoking all the time and dropping ashes into my balcony. I reported about this two times, but nothing happened. On the day of departure I forgot my blazer in the closet. I called them from the airport and we agreed that things would be worked out by email when I'm back home and that they could send it to me. However, they never answered to my emails when I contacted them later. Finally, they did not have it anymore when another friend of mine went to pick it up two months later. My mistake, but anyway...

The room is tidy and clean and a little sparse in terms of creature comforts i.e. small TV no fridge . Breakfast is the same every day except the eggs one day scrambled , next day poached etc etc . The hotel has a shop that is NEVER open and a lift that only hold 4 and is very slow to appear and then move , we where on level #6 ,strangely the sevens floor. Good location though.

We stayed in this hotel for a week with my girlfriend in June 2015. We had a seaview room, which turned out to be a gamble rather than an upgrade from the basic rooms. We had made our reservation 2 months, before arriving and requested then a room from higher floors (we knew about the street-noise problem on the lower floors) and a double bed. It felt almost comical to receive a room from the 1st. floor with twin beds, which is as opposite to our request as possible. We talked about this issue with the receptionist and he promised to give us a room from the top floor the next day. All we had to do was to pack our stuff and leave the suitcases in our room and the staff would take care of the move. Sounds fantastic....but. When we returned to the hotel from our excursions we were simply told that a mistake had happened and no other room was available, but another room would be available for us the next day (A very nice room according to the smiling receptionist) Disappointed, but hopeful we return to our room to spend another (sleepless) night with out earplugs. The next morning the manager had tried to contact us to offer another room from the 2nd FLOOR! Luckily we slept through his attempts to contact us (EAR-PLUGS), because the upgrade to the second floor wouldn´t have made any difference what so ever to the unbeleviably loud noise from the street (all night through) Once again we were told to pack our suitcases for a room change the next day. I guess I don´t need to tell you that we NEVER got the other room during our stay. We desided to not let this ruin our holiday in fantastic Malta, so we didn´t make any effort for another room, after that. The room itself was really outdated, but functional. Bed, wardrobe, desk and a chair, a balcony with view to the sea (if you don´t mind the building site across the street) The bathroom was small and the shower cubical so small that it barely fits one person. If you are even slightly overweight, you´ll not fit through the door to take a shower. Location is good in general, but if you´re going somewhere other than restaurants and shops, you´ll need to take a bus anyway. (it takes about 50 minutes to travel 10km with a bus in Malta) We also used the taxi-shuttle service offered by the hotel to get back to the airport on the day we left. We had booked our car the previous day and prepaid 22€ for the ride. Our car was supposed to pick us up at 7:30am, but after waiting for 10 minutes no car showed up. I went back to reception to find out what the delay was and after calling the company we found out that the smiling receptionist had never booked the car. The taxi-service sent another car for us, but it didn´t show up within 10 minutes either and we had no choise, but to take a taxi to the airport to make it to our flight. The taxi driver found empty streets and was even speeding at times to get us to the airport in time and told us how often this happens with St.JuliansBay hotel. It´s clear that there is something really wrong with the way the hotel is ran their customer service is mostly lies with a big smile. This was the worst hotel experience of my life. I would only recommend this hotel for groups of teenagers going for a boozing-holiday in Malta. Everyone else should do everything they can to avoid this horrible zero-star hotel!!!

So let's start with the positives. This place is cheap, it was £40 a night for a double room. We were making a flying visit to Malta for a friends wedding and figured we'd be spending very little time in our room anyway. Oh the power of hindsight. You certainly get what you pay for and some unpleasant extras (I'll come into these in a moment). The room itself was fairly small but comfortable enough for the couple of days we were going to be there. The bed...well less comfortable and don't get me started on the sheets, we took these off the bed and slept without them. The bathroom was a sorry affair. The shower was barely wide enough for me to fit in, this meant that when I turned round in the shower I would inadvertently knock the water control and either scold/freeze or turn the shower off completely. A good work around I found was to showe with the door open, it seemed to make little difference if the door was open/closed as the bathroom would always end up flooded after having a shower since the seals were broken on the shower door. We asked for an iron which we got after asking a couple of times (they forgot our room number the first time). The iron was a European plug and the rooms are British three-pin. Not to worry though as one of the staff kindly jammed their key into the earth for us so that it would turn on. No one was harmed in the ironing of our shirts. As a special treat we spotted a cockroach as we went to bed on our last night. Would I recommend? Probably not, worth spending that little extra!
