Expert's review

Being experts in our field (or beach) means going the extra mile, so we went the extra 2,500 miles and flew all the way to Crete to visit this hotel in person. Located just across the road from the coast, it's perfect for that classic beach break. The sea is nice and shallow at the edge of the beach too, which is great for the little ones. And that's not all. Tucked away within this traditional 'Cretan village' style hotel, you'll find multiple kids' pools, arcade games, a play area and loads of child-friendly options in the restaurant, including - wait for it - chicken nuggets. If that doesn't keep them happy, what will?! We can definitely see why families keep coming back to this hotel.

Hotel highlights

  • Set out like a traditional Cretan village with pretty gardens

  • A family favourite

  • Splash park

  • Italian buffet breakfast, grazie

  • Six flavours of ice cream

  • Across the road from the beach, with ramp access, shallow water, FREE sun loungers and parasols and a water station where you can grab a drink!

  • 10 minutes away from Hersonisssos

  • 20 minutes away from Heraklion Airport

  • 2.5 hours away from Chania Airport

  • Standard Rooms - despite the name, these rooms are anything but standard, with a modern interior overlooking the traditional gardens

  • Superior Rooms - these rooms offer a stylish design with an open-plan bathroom

  • Family Rooms - parents, we got you. These rooms come with a separate bedroom for the kids, and a sectioned-off bedroom for the adults which features a TV. Movie night after the kids have gone to bed? No problem.

  • Air conditioning (of course)

  • Pull-out drying racks on balconies (because let's be honest, flip-flopping down to grab your towel from the floor when it falls over the edge is not the one)

  • Satellite TV with music channels and child-friendly channels, including Nickelodeon!

  • Complimentary toiletries

  • Hairdryer - no need to cram one into your luggage!

  • Mini fridge (extra charge for minibar)

  • Safety deposit box (extra charge)

  • Balcony or terrace with a table and chairs - the perfect spot to enjoy some peace and quiet overlooking the gardens

Did you know?

Stella Village Seaside Hotel is the land of palm trees, palm trees and more palm trees! During our visit we couldn't quite believe how many there were - in fact, the hotelier even joked that we should try to count them all! It's fair to say we didn't quite succeed. Apparently it was the intention when building the hotel to add lots of plants and palms to replicate the atmosphere of a charming Cretan village. The more you know!

Food & Drink

  • Main buffet restaurant - this venue serves up good grub and good views, with a great location overlooking the sea. Enjoy Mediterranean-inspired dishes at breakfast, lunch and dinner, along with show-cooking and themed nights at dinner. Plus, there's a separate kids' corner for child-friendly bites and self-service fruit juices. Fancy a beer? You'll find a choice of pumps so you can pull your own!

  • Italian buffet restaurant - open for breakfast, late breakfast (for those late starts), lunch and dinner (with reservation), as well as buffet-style snacks from 15:30-17:00 - including chicken nuggets and six flavours of ice cream!

  • Pool Bar - get this: this was the first bar to be built at any of the Stella properties, so to say it's established is an understatement. Rock up here and you'll be greeted with local drinks, a menu of international cocktails and a cosy atmosphere. It's even open until 1am!

  • Access to a la carte restaurants at Stella Palace Aqua Park Resort (extra charge)

Sports & Entertainment

  • Swimming pools for everyone - whether you fancy swimming some laps or making a splash, there's a pool for everyone here. Take a dip in one of the two adult pools, while younger guests can make the most of the shallow kids' pools

  • Beach access - of the three Stella hotels, this one definitely has the best beach location, so it'd be rude not to check it out, right? Grab a sun lounger or try your hand at a game of beach volley if you fancy getting active

  • Kids' club - no need to worry about keeping the little ones entertained - the mini club is on hand to keep the youngest Stella Village Seaside Hotel guests occupied

  • Children's play area - the play area at this hotel always goes down a treat with the kids, and there's even a shaded area where you can keep an eye on them

  • Daytime and evening activities - from water aerobics and archery to mini golf and table tennis, there's always something to do here!

  • Arcade games - you'll find a range of arcade games next to the pool bar, with a pool table, computerised games and more!

  • Evening entertainment - the pool bar is the place to be for after-dinner entertainment

  • Adults-only disco - that's right. This hotel might cater to families, but don't think they've forgotten about the adults. Head to the pool bar area for some grown-up fun, with a dancefloor and DJ
