Ignore all of the negative reviews the holiday is amazing such good value for money and definitely worth more than 3 stars, food was lovely and sea view from the rooms is breathtaking, Europa centre down the road has some lovely restaurants and hosts steaks were to die for. If you want 5* pay for it, just some people like to moan about everything, you will want to return we are planning to next year.

A good three star hotel. Rooms and grounds were clean and well maintained and the substantial balconies all sea facing. The sun hits these pretty much all of the day (not the same with all the local hotels). and whilst some rooms are a little tired it is no different to many comparative hotels. Low season there is a complimentary bus to the beaches and the hotel is situated in a bay between Puerto Rico and Amadores beaches. These are both a bit of a walk but there are frequent taxis to get you back up the hill. That said, the hotel balconies and view are very impressive and the staff are friendly and helpful - especially 'smiley' Sheryl. The all-inclusive food is good - as good as or better than other three star hotels, there are fresh ideas each night and a genuine effort to cater for the British and Scandinavian visitors we saw on our visit. It is more difficult to keep food hot in low season as it doesn't turn over as quickly and by and large they do a good job, but it can be that dishes are a bit bland to appeal to the majority - again no different to many buffets. Drink is good on all inclusive, house wine served with meal was very pleasant. There are free cocktails and a small supplement for more conventional ones.but soft drinks and tapped beer/wine/sangria in the bar. Two things you should know - all rooms are twin - single beds with wheels on a tiled floor which offers a challenge. Also the lift wait can be a bit frustrating. I guess it is similar to many properties but again we were in low season and this would be slower in high season. Staying between floors 4 (the pools and restaurant) and 8 (reception) would be a useful tip. Wifi €20 per week, free in reception, safe is extra. Pool/Beach towels available for rent

Love this hotel!

17 April 2015

2nd visit to the Altamar. Love it. We always stay self catering. The apartments are ideal. The location is wonderful. Views incredible. This isn't the most up to date hotel but it really is...

Arrived on 9th April. Not much of a welcome just packed of with a map to room 34b. Phew what a mission. Once we found the lift and waited 5 mins for it to arrive we finally found our room down 7 floors and through 2 tunnels then down a further flight of stairs. I was so unhappy with the room choice I went immediately back to reception and asked for a room closer to the restaurant/bar/entertainment. I was told to come back tomorrow when he would know if there were any rooms available. I found out later that day the place was only half full. Not being a child wanting to wear someone down I didn't bother going back. Our room was only changed once and given a very brief clean once. By the sixth day I rang for clean towels. Building work both across the road and the hotel beneath us were very noisy all day, and spoiled the terrace sunbathing. All inclusive drinks were rubbish and we decided to pay extra to get a decent drink, only to find the bar girl giving us the local white rum in a cocktail, we had to have a row and then worried what she was doing with our drinks. The saving grace of the holiday was the FOOD! It was great constantly, as were the restaurant staff. We had good fun with the waiters. Entertainment not great but Gazza tried to make it interesting. The staff are looking forward to the English season, which starts next week and to show their appreciation the management have taken off the free bus, removed happy hour and now charge for all TV channels. There are lots of nice hotels in this area that are closer to the town and beach. If I were going again I would choose one of them. We went all inclusive, I would prefer to go half board and buy my own drinks. I actually bought a bottle of Bacardi to make sure that was what I was getting. Wifi is 18 euros a week and a safe 10. TV will cost you at least another 20. So all inclusive it is not. All that said we made the best of what we had but sorry , wont be back.
