Just come back from another AMAZING holiday at the Altamar! Visited 12/6/2015 for one week with my daughter, daughter-in-law and granddaughter! The food was excellent as usual. The rooms were brilliant as usual and the entertainment was great! The staff put themselves out to please, serve and entertain all! A special thanks to Jessie, Vikki and the team for looking after 'RUBY'. She loved every minute she spent with you! I'll definitely be going back again SOON! If only to win the massive BINGO payout 😎! Once again THANKYOU Altamar for an AMAZING holiday!

Weather averaged 26 degrees and sunny every day, not much wind. Nice clean Room with lovely sea views from a very large balcony. Poor mattress. Sky News free. Have to pay for other channels and wi fi in the room. Creating a new bridge so had to climb a scaffold made bridge to get to the restauraunt. Lift available and required, did not have to que too long. Entertainment average. Food very repetitive but could always find something. Breakfast has a good choice but fried and scrambled eggs are alternated by day. BBQ one night with so called Serloin steak which was very tough and not too sure what it was. (still had 2) Beer was Estrella (help yourself or order) and was quite ok ( coming from a Carling drinker) also found to be quite strong. Sampled plenty of it every day and it done the trick. Shorts and cocktails as most other all inclusives. Going out and about - Not much around apart from shopping complex with a few bars 10 min walk away which is a fairly flat walk. 3.5 euro in taxi to Porto rico which is needed coming back as very hilly. Be wary of any tourist information giving away scratchcards and free gifts, its all hotel membership. Best to say you have done ANFI before as this is the place you will be taken if you fall for it. Unless you want to part with £5000. Also id advise not buy electrical goods or watches unless its only a cheap bargain watch. Be wary if you buy tobacco, check the box contents before you leave the shop. Some shopkeepers are very friendly but WILL rip you off. Would i go again?? Maybe not as i like to go different places, but did enjoy my stay and did not get bit once by the mozzies

Me and my partner enjoyed 11 nights in Altamar. Hotel is located on a hill so unless you have a good stamina you would probably have to take a taxi to Puerto Rico. Hotel itself is very clean, although I did see some insects couple of times (and they were quite big buggers) but they move around hotels so it's not necessary Altamars fault. The room was cleaned every second day - basic cleaning. Food was good but quite repetitive at the end but if you are coming for a week you will be spoil with choices. Entertainment was fun and we met really great people there who become our good friends :) There is not much around and I'd suggest to hire a car and have couple of trips to the center of the island to really have a 'feel' of Gran Canaria - some stunning landscapes! and amazing local people always willing to help :)

Myself and my family visit this place twice a year and have been doing so for the last 15 years. 1. The apartments First off, All rooms have a sea view so dont pay travel operators more for a sea view room its a con. The rooms are very clean and very comfortable. All have a good sized shower room and bedroom. All have a massive balcony which captures the sun all day long. Rooms are cleaned every other day and replenished with fresh towels and bed sheets. Rooms have cooking facilities for self catering guests which again is quality equipment so cooking in is realy not an issue. 2. The food If you go all inclusive you will find the food to be of good quality and prepared to a high standard. If I was to have a complaint it would be that it does become very repetative after the first week. We did find ourselves spending money eating out because we didnt fancy the same thing again. I am not complaing as I am a firm believer of you get what you pay for and I was and always have been very satisfied with the service I have received from this place for the money that I paid. 3.Sunbeds and Pools This hotel has two very good sized swimming pools and massive sun bed areas next to both. The entire area is very clean and very family orientated. No complaints here as sun bed availability was never an issue and the kids loved it by the pools. 4. Entertainment The entertainment was a bit hit and miss. On some nights the entertainment leaves you wanting more and on others it leaves you hanging your head in embarresment for the people on stage. In particular the fashion show which was no more than a sales pitch. The entire dining room was full when it began. 30 mins later the place had cleared. It did seem as tho the hotel had just tried to fill a spot and couldnt find anyhing better. This Hotel does have a lot of returning guests some who I notice from previous Holidays every time I go which you would think would prompt the animator to refresh the acts from time to time but it realy is the same shows every year. Dont let this put you off if its your first visit some of them are very good. Gazza (The animator) who has been there as long as I can remember is very good and welcoming. He does do a good job in my opinion. talking to others around the hotel he seems to be a bit like marmite. Love him or hate him he does do a good job 5. Surrounding area. The hotel is situated high on a mountain edge, it boasts beautiful sea views from every angle. A taxi rank is just outside which will take you to the main puerto rico shopping centres and beaches for a few euros so dont let this location put you off. The Europa centre is just a 5 min walk away which has many restaurants and shops and plenty of decent bars for when you fancy a change of scenery. You have to visit the Barbacoa at night to see DJ Russ. He works in the cocktail bar at the end of the show bar. 6. The staff Some of the staff at the altamar are very pleasent and cant do enough for you. Other treat you as if your a real inconvienience to there day. Its a shame I didnt get any names. One I do know is Monika who works behind the bar who is very nice and chatty. There is one guy who sticks out is the bald guy who works on recpetion who looks at you as if he wants to kill you. Approach him with caution as it is very easy to lose your rag with him. I cant say much more about him without swearing so ill leave it there. All in all this is a very good hotel that I will be visiting again and I urge you to do the same as the pro's massivlely outweigh the cons. Its very cheap for what you get. Happy Holidays folks.
