The hotel is built into a hillside like most of the resort. It was an ideal location for us, as one side was Amadores beach and Puerto Rico on the other side, which takes 15 to 20 minutes to walk to. Nice to have a meal in one of the restaurants right on the beach. The view was fab, the food was very good, although there was only ever one choice of fish, which tended to be the same most days. As I don't eat meat I did struggle with a choice. Couldn't complain about the service, help yourself to soft drinks, beer and sangria. Entertainment for adults started at 10.00pm which varied, the hypnosis show was one not to miss. The only negatives I have are that the room had no air conditioning, hence my rating for sleep quality ( just ceiling fans). There was not a lot of room in our one bedroom apartment for four of us (two teenagers in tow). The position was like a suntrap with no breeze. It wouldn't stop me going again to the Altamar which I would recommend for families.

Just returned from 2 weeks all inclusive holiday to the Altamar. This was a family holiday with our children of 15 & 3 years old, and our friends who have a 15 year old. The hotel is nice, all the staff were very friendly & welcoming. Yes there are a lot of steps but there are 2 lifts, so this was never an issue. I could not fault the food at all, every meal we had was enjoyable. There is plenty to do in and around Puerto Rico and taxis into Puerto Rico are under 4 euros one way, the beaches are also very nice and clean. This was my first visit and I would definitely return. Thanks to all the staff for making this an enjoyable holiday.

I booked this 4 weeks before as a getaway to relax and tht is exactly what it was. On arrival we were upgraded to a one bedroom apartment - spacious, clean and good views from the balcony. I was scepticle prior to arriving as the photos weren't great on the Internet and the hotel had received mixed reviews. We were self catered and found good places to eat out in Puerto Rico (Waikiki facing the harbour is a must visit) and Amadores. We sampled the hotel's restaurant one night and would say it's alright, nothing special. Our neighbours belonged to a party of 18 and had a variety of ages to cater for and could not fault the food on offer. Knowing we were staying for the first week of the school holidays, we knew it would be busy, but my the pool was busy! In the day it was literally a splash pool as you could not swim or play because there just wasn't the space. Luckily it is open 9-9 so often found our slot was when most people left around 5 to get ready for the evening. There is a lift running through the middle of the complex, however, there are still multiple steps to negotiate depending on how far you are away from the lift. This was often busy, so we used to stairs instead of waiting for the lift. The entertainment is good, especially for families. There's an in house DJ which starts at 4pm for party hour by the pool and bingo and he follows on from the hotel entertainment after dinner. There was a bit of variety of entertainment: reptile show, hypnotic magician and singer - I don't know what the others were as we often came back too late, but just in time to catch karaoke and the dance floor. There is also a kids club, but I cannot comment. Getting down to the harbours and beaches is a bit of a task, but not impossible. Even as two fit and healthy 20 something's, we always took a cab down and there's a taxi rank just outside the hotel. Max. €4,50 to get to Puerto Rico or €3,50 to get to Amadores. All in all a good holiday, not much to do so a good one if you need to chill out. If you would like things to do, there's a shopping centre in Puerto Rico to wonder round or the bus service is very good at getting about the island: €5,50 return for 1 adult to Maspalomas from Puerto Rico bus station. I would definitely recommend using the public transport instead of booking through reps for excursions.
