I would like to share my experience of this hotel. Firstly thanks to Lynne & Darcy of Broadway Travel for finding this little gem. Travelled with a party of 8 ranging from age 25 - 67 & everything in between. They say first impressions count and first impression was very good for a 3 star hotel. Very clean & modern decor. We had a room overlooking the pool which was more modern than our travelling companions. Bruno the bar manager couldn't do enough for us from organising a birthday cake, catering for a vegan, doing packed lunches & making sure we had a hot drink & something to eat when we departed early on our last day before the restaurant opened. I think some of the reviews were staying in a different hotel to me! Food was plentiful & lots of choice. It is a quiet hotel but it is described as such on the website. If you want night life its a short cheap taxi to Portal Nous or Magaluf. The beaches are absolutely stunning & the sea so clean it looks like it was just poured from a bottle. At the end of the day you get what you pay for & this was great value for money. I have paid a lot more & stayed in a lot worse.

Me and my friend have just returned from a 5 day stay at Costa portals and what can we say? First of all BRUNO behind the bar really made our stay! He was a good laugh and we got to know him well over our short stay. Nothing was too much trouble when asking him for any help with places to visit, drinks and plates for our takeaway. He has a good sense of humour and some of the other staff could learn a lot from him. A true asset to the hotel! Drinks were good and strong! Gabriel was a lovely man too. Joined in with chat at the bar and always had a smile. The rooms were nice.. Clean with comfy beds and a nice shower. We had room 216 with a pool/sea view and it was lovely. Some of the guests in the hotel seemed a bit snooty towards the younger guests and we did find ourselves being stared at a little but this didn't bother us too much if you want 5 star guests go to a 5 star hotel! We loved the hotel, the stay and our holiday was very enjoyable and the price we paid was fantastic for what we got and that was more than we expected! We will defiantly be returning next year.l see you soon Bruno! Briony & jade

Tranquil Hotel. Not for the under 55s (or the more adventurous over 55s).

I booked this hotel for my brother's stag weekend as it was advertised as an "adult only hotel". Thought this would be ideal as I was mindful of little children witnessing inevitable stag do type wayward antics, if we had stayed at a family hotel. The hotel would have been best advertised as suitable for retired couples. One evening a couple of our party got a bit loud in the corridor after returning from a night out, whilst other guests were asleep. Rightfully so, some of the other guests complained. I was made aware of the complaints when we were abruptly woken by two members of staff barging their way into our room ranting and raving, accusing us of rediculous actions, besides just making a noise. Nevertheless, the staff had to act upon the complaints they had recieved, though a little decorum wouldn't have gone amis. LOCATOON: Very quiet, nestled inbetween other buildings, including local residences. About 15 minutes walk up to the nearest village of Portal Nous where there is an array of food outlets and bars. 'The Ship' was our favourite, run by a Brit, with good selection of beer. Though if you want ale, you'll have to make do with ale from a bottle. Portal Nous is a quiet little place but has everything you need. Palma is a short bus ride away and offers suffistication, whilst Magaluf is in the opposite direction if you want wild partying. The alcohol in Magaluf is watered down so I don't know how these youngsters end up stripping off and jumping on taxi bonnets over there. ACCOMMODATION: Nice accommodation, on suite, TV with a few British channels (once I tuned it in), balcony with distant sea views. During our stay, there was a new hotel being built nearby which meant noise but the main issue was its location obscuring the sea views. FOOD: It was okay. Would have liked real sausages for breakfast instead of tiny little cocktail sausages. The food ran out quite quickly, so sometimes we dipped out on beans, eggs etc. Lunch and dinner were okay too. A good array of choice and some of the food was rather tasty, though they do use cheap ingredients. Again, some food choices ran out quickly so you need to get there as the meals start. DRINKS: Coffee - from a machine. Tea - forget it if you like a good mug of old builders or Earl Grey. Juice - from a machine. Beer - local beer in a small glass or small cardboard cup. No pint glasses at this hotel. Local lager, no ale. Cocktails - three alcoholic available and one non alcoholic. Spirits - there's plenty! THE POOL: FREEZING! And if you want to swim in it, be prepared to be gawked at by the 30 or so people sat around the pool edge. THE STAFF: Rather friendly but not in your face friendly. If you like a crack or banter with the staff, this is not the place. The staff here smile and say good morning. Some of the reception staff seem a little grumpy and reluctant to help with out of the ordinary requests but one did help with providing us with a local taxi firm contact number. One of our party was fluent in Spanish as he grew up in Spain and it was interesting to find out what the staff thought of the guests and each other. It was a bit of fun until our Spanish speaker was known, and from that moment on, many of the staff spoke a local language. OVERALL VIEW: It's a pleasant hotel, suited to retired couples. The food is hit and miss. The staff are friendly enough, though reception staff could work on their customer service skills. If you want a lively hotel with a little entertainment and banter with the staff, it's not for you. If you want piece and an early night each night, it is for you. You won't get quiet for a while whilst the nearby hotel is being erected, so no laying-in in the mornings. Anyone under 55, choose somewhere else and leave the older people have their tranquility in this quaint, relaxed hotel.
