The driest and warmest time to explore, though pleasantly mild compared to southern Spain – you won't be melting on the beach here. Perfect for surfing, hiking, and enjoying the region's gorgeous Atlantic coastline. Book early for the big festivals.

🐟 Santoña Carnival (February/March) – the "Carnival of the North" features the wonderfully bizarre "Trial at the Bottom of the Sea" where a sea bream is judged by Neptune for kidnapping a mermaid. Costume parades, murgas (satirical singing groups), and the burning of the bream make this one of Spain's most unique carnival celebrations

Santander Airport has direct flights from several UK airports, and Bilbao Airport (about an hour's drive) offers even more options. There's also a ferry from Portsmouth to Santander if you fancy bringing the car. We can sort your transfers when you book.
