Panormos is the beach on Skopelos where the sand meets the forest and the grin meets your face. A quiet, beautiful, beach spot, perfect for a relaxing holiday where you come back feeling 10/10.
Highlights of your Holidays to Panormos
The Beach – A wide bay of golden sand and smooth pebbles backed by pine trees that come right down to the shore. Organised with sunbeds and umbrellas at one end, wild and free at the other. The water is clear and calm.
Mamma Mia Island – Skopelos is where the film was shot, and Panormos is one of the filming locations. The famous Agios Ioannis chapel (the wedding scene) is on the island's north coast, and Kastani Beach (the musical beach scenes) is just a few minutes' drive south.
The Greenest Island – Skopelos is the greenest island in Greece. Pine forest covers more than half of it, hiking trails connect beaches to monasteries, and the whole place smells like a luxury spa (only you don't have to wear a robe, or worry about the bill).
Proper Tavernas - Panormos has a handful of beachside tavernas serving grilled fish, Skopelitian cheese pie and carafes of local wine. Giannis taverna on the beach is a local favourite.
Peace and Quiet – Panormos is a beach with tavernas, a couple of hotels, and pine trees. That's it. That's the sell. If you want a big night out, then best to go elsewhere but if you want a lie-in, or an actually peaceful holiday, then you've come to the right place!
Good to Know
☀️ Weather – July and August hit 30°C with long sunny days and warm seas. Shoulder season (May, June, September) sits in the mid-20s with calmer beaches and warm enough water for swimming into October.
💶 Money – Skopelos is good value compared to the headline Greek islands. A taverna meal runs €10–€15, a beer is €3–€5, and sunbed hire on the organised beaches is affordable. You won't need a big daily budget here.
🎬 Fun Fact – The Mamma Mia wedding chapel (Agios Ioannis Kastri) is perched on a rocky outcrop on Skopelos' north coast, reached by around 200 steps carved into the rock. The view from the top is worth every one of them, and yes, people do sing ABBA up there.
Beaches
Skopelos' south and west coasts have the best beaches, and Panormos is right in the middle of them. The pine forest runs to the shoreline on most, giving shade you don't have to pay for.
Panormos Beach – The main bay, a mix of golden sand and smooth pebbles with pine trees framing both sides. Organised with sunbeds and tavernas at one end, quieter and wilder at the other. Clear, calm water and a relaxed atmosphere.
Kastani Beach – A few minutes' drive south, this is the Mamma Mia musical beach. Soft sand, turquoise water, pine trees to the waterline, and a beach bar. More organised than Panormos but still feels properly Greek rather than resort-managed.
Milia Beach – Between Panormos and Kastani, a long pebbly beach with crystal water and a more secluded feel. Good snorkelling around the rocky edges.
Stafylos Beach – Further south towards Skopelos Town, a popular family beach with a taverna and calm water. Named after the mythological first king of Skopelos.
Local Lingo
Greek is the language on Skopelos. English is spoken in the hotels and main tavernas, but the island is less tourist-saturated than the big-name Greek islands, so a few words go further and get a warmer reception.
Yassas, YAH-sas (Γειά σας), Hello (formal/plural)
Efharisto, ef-hah-ree-STOH (Ευχαριστώ), Thank you
Parakalo, pah-rah-kah-LOH (Παρακαλώ), Please / You're welcome
Yamas, YAH-mas (Γεια μας), Cheers
Skopelitiki tiropita, skoh-peh-lee-TEE-kee tee-ROH-pee-tah (Σκοπελίτικη τυρόπιτα), Skopelos cheese pie (order this everywhere)
🏨 Hotels
Panormos is a small resort, so the hotel selection is limited. Our top pick in the village is...
Adrina Beach Hotel. Family-run hotel built into a pine-covered hillside above its own shingle beach, with all-white rooms and maisonettes opening onto balconies with garden or sea views. The panoramic terrace does a proper buffet breakfast with a view, the beachside taverna serves authentic Greek food, and the beach bar keeps the cocktails coming. Panormos village is a short walk away, and Skopelos Town is 12km by road. The kind of place where you slow down whether you planned to or not.

👨👩👧👦 Families
Spend a full day on Panormos Beach, where the shallow water at the organised end is calm enough for young swimmers and the tavernas are right behind you for lunch.
Drive to Kastani Beach for a Mamma Mia morning, where the kids can run around on the soft sand and you can point out where the musical scenes were filmed (they may not care, but you will).
Take a boat trip from Skopelos Town along the coast, stopping at coves for swimming and passing the Agios Ioannis chapel from the sea.
Walk one of the island's pine forest trails connecting Panormos to neighbouring beaches, an easy, shaded route with the sea visible through the trees.
💑 Couples
Climb the 200 steps to Agios Ioannis Kastri chapel on the north coast for sunset views over the Aegean that are worth every step. Bring a camera and a bottle of wine.
Have dinner at a Panormos beach taverna as the sun goes down, with grilled octopus, a carafe of local wine and the sound of the sea doing the background music.
Hire a scooter and spend a day exploring the island's quiet west coast, stopping at beaches, monasteries and the hilltop village of Glossa for lunch with a view.
Walk from Panormos to Kastani Beach along the coastal path through the pine forest for a morning swim and a long lunch at the beach bar.
🎉 Groups
Book the Mamma Mia filming locations tour from Skopelos Town, which covers Agios Ioannis, Kastani Beach, Panormos and Glossa village in a half-day with a guide, ABBA singalongs on the bus included.
Rent a car and beach-hop the south coast: Stafylos, Panormos, Milia, Kastani. Each one has a different feel, and the drives between them are short and scenic.
Spend an evening in Skopelos Town, where the harbour-front tavernas and bars stay lively into the night and the old town's narrow streets are made for post-dinner wandering.
Take the ferry to Skiathos for a day trip with a bigger nightlife scene, more beaches and the kind of bar-hopping evening Skopelos doesn't do.
