Want to stay in central Copenhagen with everything on your doorstep? In the central district Nyhavn, Tivoli and Strøget are all just a short stroll from your room.
This is the guide to staying central in Copenhagen. For the wider city, every neighbourhood, the full things-to-do run-down and day trips beyond the centre, see our main Copenhagen guide.
Staying central: what's on your doorstep
These are the things you can reach on foot from a central base, the reason staying in the core is worth it.
Nyhavn - The postcard canal of coloured 17th-century townhouses, lined with bars and the departure point for harbour boat tours. Five to ten minutes' walk from most central hotels.
Strøget and the shopping streets - One of Europe's longest pedestrian shopping runs, threading right through the centre, with everything from high-street names to Danish design flagships.
Tivoli Gardens - The 1843 amusement park sits beside the central station, so it's the easiest evening out in the city when you're staying central, all lit up after dark.
The Round Tower and the Latin Quarter - The 17th-century Round Tower, with its spiralling ramp instead of stairs, sits in the old university quarter, a tangle of bookshops and cafés made for a slow morning.
Kongens Nytorv and the Royal Theatre - The grand square at the top of Strøget, ringed by heritage buildings, with the Royal Danish Theatre and Magasin du Nord department store on its edges.
🏨 Central Copenhagen Hotels
Staying central is all about location, so we've sorted our central picks by the part of the core they sit in. See all hotels in Copenhagen City.
🎢 Around Tivoli and the central station
Villa Copenhagen. A grand heritage hotel in the old central post office, 100 metres from Tivoli and right by the station, with a heated rooftop pool and a spa. As central as it gets, and a guest favourite.
Scandic Copenhagen. An 18-storey tower with water and city views, opposite the planetarium and a short walk from Tivoli, with a bar and fitness centre. The central station is on the doorstep.
Coco Hotel. A relaxed spot near the station with a café, a garden and a games room, a few minutes' walk from Tivoli and Strøget. Good value for a central stay.
⚓ Around Nyhavn and Kongens Nytorv
Copenhagen Admiral Hotel. An 18th-century warehouse right on the harbour by Nyhavn, with original beams, a maritime feel and a sauna. A stroll from Amalienborg Palace.
Maritime Hotel. A cosy hotel within wandering distance of Nyhavn, Kongens Nytorv and the Royal Theatre, with bike hire and a generous breakfast. Central and well-priced.
Copenhagen Strand. A four-star in an 1869 warehouse a few minutes from Nyhavn, with a maritime look and some rooms facing the water. Strøget is 250 metres away.
🚲 Around the harbour and Christianshavn
NH Collection Copenhagen. A sleek five-star on the Christianshavn harbourfront, with a rooftop bar, Nordic tapas at Tablafina and harbour-view rooms. The Opera House and Nyhavn are a short walk or water-bus hop away.
Copenhagen Island. A design-led hotel on its own harbour island, water views from every room, with the bus and train station 50 metres away and the centre an easy walk.
CPHLiving. A floating boutique hotel with twelve rooms and Danish design throughout, a 20-minute stroll from the centre with a sun terrace over the water. Properly one of a kind.
