Prague 8's highlight is Karlin, a former industrial neighbourhood that flooded badly in 2002 and was rebuilt from the ground up. The result is one of Prague's most modern districts: wide pavements, new-build apartment blocks, excellent restaurants (Eska, one of Prague's best, is here), craft breweries and independent coffee shops. It feels nothing like the Gothic old centre, which is part of the appeal.
Karlin sits just northeast of the Old Town, about 15 minutes on foot or one metro stop on Line B (Krizikova or Florenc). The Vltava riverfront is walkable, and the area has a growing reputation as Prague's food-and-drink neighbourhood for locals who've outgrown Zizkov's dive bars.
A strong pick for couples or groups who want a modern, design-led hotel in a neighbourhood that feels current rather than historic, with the Old Town still easily walkable.
