Prague 7 is the north-bank district that's become the city's creative quarter. Holesovice is the centre of it, a former industrial area that now has galleries (DOX Centre for Contemporary Art, Veletrzni Palace with the National Gallery's modern art collection), independent restaurants, craft breweries and a weekend farmers' market at the converted Holesovice Market Hall.

Letna Park sits above the river on the district's southern edge, with the best panoramic view of Prague's bridges and Old Town spires. The beer garden up here is open May to September and is one of the most popular local hangouts in the city, a half-litre of pilsner and the entire city skyline for €2.

Prague Zoo is in the northern part of the district, consistently ranked in Europe's top ten, and a full day out with kids. The district is connected to the centre by tram (15 minutes to Old Town Square) and has a metro station at Holesovice.

Good for couples on a second visit who want the artier, more local-feeling side of Prague, and for families drawn by the zoo and the parks.
