Prague 6 is the leafy, residential district west of the centre, stretching out toward the airport. It's the calmest part of the city that's still well-connected by tram and metro, with wide streets, big parks (Stromovka and Hvezda are both partly in Prague 6), and a quieter pace that suits families and anyone who wants to recharge after a day of sightseeing.
The Brevnov Monastery, founded in 993, is one of the oldest in Bohemia and worth a visit for the Baroque church and the brewery attached to it. Dejvice has a cluster of embassies, university buildings and good restaurants that cater to residents rather than tourists.
Tram connections into the centre take about 20 minutes, and proximity to the airport is a practical bonus for early-morning flights. The best family base in Prague: peaceful at night, green during the day, and connected to everything.
